How to make shirts last forever-avoid ink running

I have made a T-shirt before....We were going to Catholic Youth Day right after Pope John Paul II died, and I made one in honor of him....It ran right after getting on a water ride....I was so crushed

I want to avoid such a experience again. I am working hard on these shirts, but I don't see the point if they can't get wet...any suggestions?

How exactly did you make them? was it an iron on? Cause they are washable..

I don't see how they can run if they get wet?

Which transfer paper did you use? What kind of printer do you have? I used the Avery transfers for dark shirts and didn't have a problem with them running. I have also used the Avery transfers for light shirts and didn't have any problem with them running either (though some of those transfers did crack and peel sooner than I would have liked).

Also, make sure you prewash the items WITHOUT any fabric softener. My mother just did blue jean jackets for my niece & nephew. I forgot to remind her about this and the iron-ons were ruined the 1st time they were washed. I'm sure it was because she used fabric softener when she prewashed them. I've used the same exact transfer paper (Avery from Walmart for dark shirts) and have never had that problem.

I've been told you should wash them inside out without fabric softener whenever you wash them as well. However, I wash them inside out but always use fabric softener (except for the prewash!!!!!) and mine have held up through more than a dozen washes.

Yes! I bought Avery w/o realizing...So I shall throw shirts in the wash once I get off the phone w/ Disney, so they will be all ready to be designed
