How to make our luggage stand out?

We have personalized luggage straps. I also got fed up with looking at all the black luggage; we tried the ribbon on the handle route.....it just wasn't bold enough, was still hard to spot it.
I did a web search for luggage straps and found a place in Canada that specializes in personalized dog collars & leashes; they also do luggage straps. The straps are available in about 20 colors & then you choose what color thread you want your name embroidered into it in block letters. We got canary yellow with thick black letters spelling out our last name.
It works great.......no grabbing the wrong luggage now!

Samsonite has large luggage tags available in a variety of neon colors. They aren't that popular so it helps your luggage stand out.

I would simply do as others have done by tying ribbon or yarn on the handles. Personally, I use trail marker tape which is bright orange. It's really simple and it does the trick.

Those are very cute, however I personally would not put the time and effort into doing that to my luggage because of the way the airlines throw it around.

The older-looking bag is in the belly of plane at least 20 times a year, and on other trips about 5 times a year. It's more than 15 years old. I think it's held up pretty well. The other one (with the Disney designs) isn't quite as old.

The only reason the "older" one looks as beat-up as it does is because it's been through the washer/dryer a few times.

Those bags are from the Army Surplus Store. They're apparently meant to hold parachutes, so I figured that anything that's meant for the army to throw around (and potentially out of plane I suppose) should hold up to the baggage handlers.

I bought some DIS lime green bandannas at the Dollar store and tied one around each handle..super knotted it and wrapped it around the handle good so that it wasn't flapping and couldn't catch on things. Worked great...saw the bags right away...we later used a bandanna on the antenna of our rather generic rental car to help find it...just make sure you tie it on securely up high when you park so it doesn't slide down or blow off. :sunny:

I was thinking of getting some Iron on patches in like a silvery color that spell our my name to put on the back of my suitcase as the front of mine is unique. As for my other suitcase, I will probably do the same or put some sort of interesting design on it.

EDIT: That duck tape doesn't sound like a bad idea. Hmm...think I may be decorating cheaply and easily! LoL

I suggest starting a luggage company that sells all colors of luggage except black. :rotfl:

When I went with my high school on trips (flew twice to Disney World and Land), my friend and I took LOTS of ribbon in different colors and made a bow almost. We did neon green and pink, blue and red, orange and purple, about every combo you can think of. Once we did two or three pieces on, we used scissors and curled them, like on a package. With such bright colors mixed together, it really helped pick out our luggage.

My daughter had some bright orange yarn left over from a school project. I took long pieces of it and wrapped around all the handles so it was almost a solid orange handle! We had no problem finding our luggage.

I took a lenght of 1/2" construction safety rope (Yellow and Black), cut a small lenght, and spliced it around the handle.

The rope is plastic, so you can heat it to melt it together; it will never come off.

It's just bigger than the handle, so it doesn't get caught on anything.

It's it's so much sturdier than yarn or ribbon, I never have to worry about loosing it during the trip.

I second the idea of painting the luggage. I'll be doing this for our next trip since our luggage is dark green and other pieces are black. It doesn't have to be anything fancy--I plan on just doing the Mickey head silhouette in red on the black luggage and in black on the green luggage. Maybe paint a couple of each side and I'm done-probably take less than 1 hour.

I also have a couple piece of hard sided luggage, but that is easily to spot, bright red.

I use a combination of the colored luggage straps (lime green!) and mickey-shaped stickers. They were meant to be for the bottom of the bathtub so I figure that they will stick even if the bag gets wet. They are bright red so they really stick out!

What a fantastic idea! Where did you get them?

I got them from the Disney catalog about a year or so ago. They were a free gift with purchase. I found them when going through my Disney stuff a few trips back. I would assume that you could make your own out of some similar sticky paper and cut out the Mickey head shape

you could always buy a can of NEON ORANGE TRAFFIC MARKING SPRAY PAINT and paint your luggage...

Just kidding.. I lean towards Disney Stickers, bumper stickers or even the really BIG stickers you can get to decorate a wall (like from a paint store)... and I have my Dis-Lime green luggage tags and luggage locks too....

If you want to keep people away from them, put sticker on them that say, "elephant manure samples for testing" no one will touch them. Or "Dirty Diapers only"

My dad has been doing this for 35 years: he puts bright colored tape (electrical tape, for example in red) in the initial of his last name (H) on both sides of the suitcase. You'd need to find a tape that will stick to soft-sided luggage, though, but this is an option that can eventually be removed if desired.
