how to make my scrap area look organized and not cluttered?

ok guys...I need some suggestions. I purchased 12 of the Jetmax cubes and hubby is finishing them today. I need to know:

How you store pattern paper? Do you sort by theme or colors or??? and what container do you use since it is "flimsy" and doesn't store vertical very well...but I hate to store horizontal because you have to "touch" all of it each time you need a sheet.

Also, what do you store your pages in progress in? I usually take my pics and pick out pattern paper to go with it and keep the pics, paper, stickers all together until I am ready to assemble. Anyone else do that? What do you use for stoage?

I have a ton of Disney "crap" (my treasures...lol) that I have collected...not traditional scrapbook stuff but things I have picked up at Disney, trip planning info to use in scrapbooks, etc...does anyone else have this and if so again, how and what do you use for storage?

I'm sure I will have more questions as the day goes on...lol! It is a work in progress and I have ALOT to go thru...Right now my family room looks like America's greatest "horder"...but I moved everything out as ya'll suggested and am going thru every little thing. I need a snow day so I can stay home and work but now they have changed forecast to all rain

Like some of us mentioned, the Priority Mail boxes are great for storing paper upright. You're right, storing the paper horizontal doesn't always work well. That is the cheap option. They also sell Cropper Hopper paper storage boxes for storing paper upright.

You need to sort papers according to how you work. Do you work by themes or by colors or manufacturer?? I sort a few different ways. If it is pretty specific to a particular theme, I sort by theme (Disney, boy, girl, travel, Christmas, Easter, etc). If it just a random pattern, I sort by main color.

When I make up kits I store them in the big 2-gallon ziptop bags. I also save the resealable cellophane bags that page protectors come in and use those to make kits as well. They sell 12 x 12 page storage envelopes for about $1 in the craft stores (the type with the string closures), but I need lots, so the ziptop bags and cellophane bags are cheaper.

Well.... I have a whole large drawer dedicated to just Disney... Disney papers, stickers, maps, etc. I use smaller platic boxes and such inside the large drawer to keep things separated.

During a trip I usually keep a large ziptop bag or paper storage envelope handy and fill it with things during the trip... maps, receipts, etc. Then when the trip is over I add my trip journal to the packet and then close it, label it, and store it until I am ready to scrap that particular trip. I currently store my "trip packets" in the drawers of my rolling cart.

I'm sure I will have more questions as the day goes on...lol! Good luck getting through all of your stuff. It will take work, but it will be SO NICE when it is all finished! Be ruthless with the purging too! I don't think you will regret it. Remember... if it isn't scrapping related, it doesn't go back into the scrapping area.

I'm in the process of completely re-doing my scraproom down to the floors. Actually my DH is putting in wood floors.

Wanted to let y'all know that Michael's has the JetMax storage at 40% and if you have a 25% including sale items coupon you can use it. I'm going later this afternoon to use mine to get some ribbon storage and maybe some cubes.

I have all my pp in the CropperHopper vertical paper holders labeled by company, ie. Basic Grey, KI, then by pattern name since I usually buy the whole collection (I know, pathetic ). The pp that I don't buy the whole collection then I just have organized by theme, ie. dance, Disney, travel. I've been doing this for a while and will probably continue it with my 2011 scraproom re-do!

I have all my in-progress pages either a 12x12 storage bin or in one of my 12 x 12 drawers - I'll try and take a photo of my 12x12 drawers (which are currently in my dining room) which is also where I have all my embellishments stored by theme, ie. dance, beach, cheer, travel, school, misc., etc. All my Disney stuff is in special bins because I have so much of it

I use the Cropper Hopper holders. You get one large, which I use for cardstock, and 4 small pouches which I use for my patterned paper. The set is regularly $25, so I would buy them with a coupon. I have a pic. But in the short term, Priority Mail boxes work well.

Both of these I use Iris boxes. They can be a bit pricey, but they go on sale for cheap as part of the Black Friday sale. For the Disney ephemera, I started with one of those 7 drawer Iris units, but I filled it. So now, I've moved on to each trip in one of those Iris boxes. If you look at wdwmickey's cropping space thread, these are the same boxes that she is using to store Swap items, in the bottom of her daughter's cabinet.

WOW...going thru all my "stuff" is getting very overwhelming! I want to stop & organize/work on eacg project...like all our Disney cruises and trips, Old family photos, etc instead of fimding organized places to put it all until I finish all this and make time then to work on these major projects. I am finding myself just shuffling stuff around. Wish all you that offered lived close by and come come over for coffee and organizing...lol!

Put each "project" in a big box, label the box and anything that should be part of that project goes in the box (temporarily), ie--"family photos", "WDW trip 2007"; "cruise 2008"; and so on. Then later after you've made a home for all your patterned paper, cardstock, etc you can go back and sort through each project box as you are working on the project. KWIM?

yep, I use bankers boxes since they are all the same size and easily stacked. I have a set that I make/break-down for major room clean-out. I use a regular piece of paper to label the box and staple it to the top edge.

Yes!!! If you come across something and say "OH that goes with cruise stuff" then by all means put it with cruise.
I have manila envelopes for memorabilia from trips, like when we went to Kansas. I have all that stuff together so when I go to do that album it's all there.
If that is the way you personally sort and store stuff, then go for it.

When I'm sorting my supplies most of it is by color but I followed the philosophy of put it with the theme that pops into my mind first, that's probably why I purchased it in the first place.

Example, I have paper that is white with orange, green, purple and black stripes. To me it screams Halloween so that's where it went.

I also have paper from Creative Memories from the Reminisce line, even though they have fall and winter papers those don't go in fall and winter, they go with the whole Reminisce line because the whole set coordinates.

cardstock is sorted by the rainbow method (ROY G BIV), pattern paper as well. Sub themes are holiday, seasons, school, kids, pets, then manufacturer lines like Basic Grey - Hang Ten, Basic Grey - Vagabond, etc. All paper is stored in Cropper hoppers except for 8 1/2 x 11, those are in magazine holders from Ikea.

pages in progress are stored in iris boxes. You could also ask your local pizza place for large unused pizza boxes. Those work pretty well.
For kits (as you discribed above) I use a page sorter from Creative Memories that came with dividers. You could use the iris boxes and use the 12x12 paper as the divider between layouts. Others use 2 1/2 gallon ziploc bags. Hefty makes them.

How's everyone doing with their organizing/cleaning projects? It is funny, just that little bit of cleaning and rearranging that I did makes my space feel so new and fresh (maybe that's cause I DUSTED ). I've been SUPER productive and cranking out the scrapbook pages this month! In fact.... I'm heading up to my table in about 5 minutes!.............P

SLOW!!! But I am really organizing things as I go. I own my own business and it is tax time so I didn't pick a great time to have alot of free time but I am enjoying knowing that once I finish, scrapping will be so much better! I've jumped on the re-organizing bandwagon. I also picked the worse time possible to do it. My DH will be leaving soon for most of this year for work, and I decided to start moving furniture on the day he was supposed to be packing. Our upstairs is a complete disaster zone. And I get to fix the entire situation all by myself. What was I thinking? It may take me months, because I've getting a few new pieces of furniture too, but I will get it done. I have to.

One good thing, I've rediscovered all this pretty patterned paper I have. I never got the knack of using it in scrapbook layouts, but I can see they'll look great on cards. Excited.

oh, yeah. Taxes. Those too.
