How to make a wedding newsletter in MS Word! Added one I made 10-21-10

Here is another one of Jessica's (Boston Disney Bride) wonderful documents that she had in her welcome packet and was so nice to share. You also may not have room for all of this in your newsletter...but you could put information on "what is a hidden mickey". Then where ever you need a little space filled...you could put places to find hidden mickeys!:

Hidden Mickeys - Your Very Own Guide to Spotting the World’s Sneakiest Mouse!

What Is a “Hidden Mickey?”

A Hidden Mickey is an image of Mickey Mouse concealed in the design of a Disney attraction (ride, resort, etc...) Originally, it took the shape of a head and ears silhouette, but Hidden Mickeys (HM) can take on many forms.
In designing, constructing, or adding the final touches to an attraction, Imagineers subtly "hide" Mickey Mouse silhouettes in plain sight. Soon, it became a tradition, and as the word spread, Disney fans everywhere went on the search for HMs in Disney movies and theme parks.

Unfortunately, Imagineers have never kept official track of where they were originally placed. Since attractions change or are enhanced throughout the years, HMs can disappear. And, others will appear or reappear for many reasons.

Other Hidden Things

Imagineers have also placed other fun items in the design of the parks and movies, many other characters, such as Donald, Goofy, Ewoks, and Minnie. It could be as simple as their names or initials (on tombstones or baskets).

Sometimes Imagineers pay tribute to people and organizations in fun ways, such as Walt and the companies that bought the property for Walt Disney World.

If you have already made a newsletter or have ideas for things to put in a newsletter...take some time to add them to this thread.

bump...just curious how your newsletters are turning out and if my instructions were helpful.

This is excellent! Not planning to send our invites out for a little while (save the dates in January 2011 & invites in September 2011) but this will be great for our newsletters as I'm already thinking of things I will need to add to them!
Very handy!

WOW this is wonderful, we are getting married next September and we are all coming from Scotland so I really wanted to put something together for our guests making the effort and expense to come! I am not very technically minded so this helps A LOT!!!!

Fingers crossed, will start now and hopefully no tears!

I love all the info you can put in your newsletters about WDW. However, what if you are planning a wedding at Disneyland? Where can I find all this wonderful information, and are there any Disbrides out there who have made newsletters for Disneyland? :confused3

Here is my newsletter no.2
I did not include hidden mickeys, interesting facts etc as I intend to include these in the welcome packet I be putting in the welcome bags. They seem a little colourless as I didn't want to give my guests a hint on our colours until the official invitations go out in February.

Here is an example of a newsletter that I made using MS Word. I know it it isn't Disney...but I wanted to show you what could be done with just MS Word.

I used the "generic newsletter" template that I found online through the website mentioned in the first post. If you understand the basics of "textboxes" and "inserting pictures"...this is super easy to do! I spent the evening and this morning putting this together. The colors were already a good fit since the green shades matched "the Great Wolf Lodge" theme but it is super simple to change out the green colors to a more Disney color or one that would match your wedding. Here is how:

• Click on the shaded block. Make sure that you are clicking somewhere other than where there are words. If you click on the words...you will open up the textbox and not the shaded block.
• Then go to the top of Word and click on "format" and in the drop down menu click on "borders and shading". It will probably take you right to the correct screen but if it doesn't make sure you are on the "shading" tab.
• Next click on the down arrow to the right of the color block. If you don't see a color you like on the first screen, click on the "more colors" button. You will then get a new popup with additional colors...if you still don't see the perfect shade...click on the "custom" tab to make your own color.
• You can look at a color code chart online like this one: http://cloford.com/resources/colours/500col.htm to find the "RGB" code. Then you can use it to get your perfect color on the "custom" tab. The RGB code is the set of three numbers to the left of the Access #. It will look like this and I made the RGB #'s red:

Indian Red #B0171F 176 23 31 2037680

I'm a visual person...so I hope this helps you to decide that you can make a great newsletter using just MS Word and a template so that all you have to do is plug in the words, pictures and play with the colors!

Dolly thanks for starting this thread! We are getting married next December and we are starting to get a ton of questions from family and friends that have never been to Disney. I was going to ask if anyone had newsletters/ideas they could post and then I saw you already had a thread started. :woohoo: You are awesome! :worship: I love your DIY items too.

I am bookmarking this thread. Thanks!

You are all so welcome! If you get a chance...post pictures of how your newsletters turn out so other brides can get ideas.

I "borrowed" a lot of information from everyone else's newsletters and tweeked it to fit what I needed. We are having them printed right now -- I found 11x17" brochure paper on HP's website for half off and the printer is giving us a great deal. The letter-size pages will be printed side-by-side and front-and-back so in the end it will be 2 sheets that we fold like a newspaper.

Dolly,

I'm having trouble moing around pictures once I insert them. Resizing them is no problem, but I can't seem to figure out how to drag them around. Any tips?

If the image isn't in the right place...had you considered cutting and pasting it into where you want it to go? You can drag the image around but if you drag it to another section it will put it over any wording that you may have...it will not insert it into the new section. In order to move/insert it into a new section you will need to highlight the picture, then "cut" it from the section. Next place your cursor where you want the image and click on "paste".

Let me know if that fixes the problem.

Dolly,

I just found this thread while reading through your other thread!! You are a blessing sharing all this with us!! I'm gonna be busy, so my DW will be calling YOU to complain!!! :lmao:
