How to know if Disney DVD's on eBay are authentic?

Is there anything to look for or ask? I narrowed my search to US Only, but I want to make sure it is an authentic Beauty and the Beast DVD!

I would be leery of any of the Disney titles that are "in the vault." I bought a Peter Pan from a seller with many DVD sales and positive feed back. It, and I imagine all the others, was not legitimate US editions. The other buyers did not know the difference or did not care.

You could ask "if it does not include the Magic Code, will they would pay return shipping and refund you the cost of the movie."

Once in a while I see one that has a special attachment, like a pin. I assume these are real, but they sell really high.

They are re-releasing Beauty and the Beast on DVD and Blu Ray in 2010. If you have the time to wait, you can probably get it for cheaper (after coupons and deals) than buying on ebay and it'd be brand new.

Tread carefully. I ordered the Lion King off ebay and it was a clever fake, but a fake nonetheless. The seller swore it was a "real" Disney DVD.

Me too. I ordered mine on Half. The guy had hundreds of great feedback, so I didn't research too much until I got the (fake) DVD. So I looked at his feedback more closely and there were several neutrals spread out over 6 months or so saying they were probably illegal copies.

It totally looked like an original until I got to reading the notes that came with the DVD. THAT is when I knew. I figured the good people at Dinsey (uh...Disney) had heard of spell check. I picked a good half dozen misspelled words out of a single page.

So be sure to read ALL the feedback.

I would assume all were fakes.

For the ones who got them and knew they were fake, what was it that made your think so?

Ohhh sweet, thank you for the heads up on that one!

I had a thread on my investigation. Hmm, can I post a link?? http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=34255822&postcount=1

The Ebay seller admitted to buying his stash of DVD from a site in China that operated like Ebay, only sold "in lots." (ie - 25 Peter Pan DVD.) When I Googled it - I came up with all kinds of fake product information. Last I checked, he was no longer selling - took the money and ran I guess.

I purchased both Beauty and the Beast and Snow White last year from a seller who claimed they were real....both were fakes.

I purchased Snow White on Blu Ray when it came out and plan on doing the same for Beauty and The Beast when it comes out.

Me three... I ordered off of Amazon Marketplace. It was a very convincing fake, until I got part way into it and it kept freezing. When I bought it, the guy had lots of positive feedback and almost none negative. The few negatives were more in relation to slow shipping. After I spent two weeks trying to contact him to get a refund, I found several other people posted negative feedback after I'd already purchased the DVD. I guess he got a bad batch of pirated DVDs and lots of people were ticked. Amazon was great about refunding my money, and he was shut down quickly.
