I hate heat! I hate humidy! And I'm going to WDW in June!

Why? Because my brother Jack says that Mickey really knows how to throw a birthday party! :wizard:

I know it's been discussed before, but I can't seem to find it. Please give me your best strategy for keeping cool and refreshed, and any great cool places to take a break while visiting the parks.

Wear light color cotton clothing. Make sure you have sunscreen. I've lived in FL most of my life and I can't tell you how many "lobsters" I've seen. Sometimes even we burn and June sun is a strong sun. Maybe wear a hat I would say straw not a baseball cap. Just because tank tops are light and thin remember they do not protect your shoulders. Drink plenty of water. Long sit down rides are the best for a chance to cool off.

MK COP, MK, Philharmagic
Epcot Universe of Energy, Honey I shrunk the audience
MGM Sounds Dangerously or WWTBAM
AK Tough to be a Bug and Lion King

or just go into a counter service restaurant and have a cold drink. Maybe while you are still home look for the water bottle fans. At the parks they are about $25. It blows mist and helps you feel cooler.

Oh one other thing. Though when riding Kali River Rapids you will get wet though it sounds like it will cool you off believe me 10 mins after getting off the ride you will be hating it.
The absolute best place to cool off is your hotel. Chillin in the room or in the pool.

July, August, and September are worse than June especially the humidity levels. Trust me, I live 100 miles away. During the hottest times of the day, go to see the Presidents in Liberty Square (air conditioned). Get a fast pass for Philharmagic and try to get a time for the hotter part of the day. If you are at a hotel, get out to the parks early and come back by noon. Then relax around the pool or in the hotel and go back out at 5 p.m. The wait in Pirates of the Carribean is not so bad as much of it is in cool caves.

I have a seasonal pass and am thankful that I am "blacked out" for two months in the summer. It wouldn't bother me if they blacked me out from June until September. The only thing I do for those months is go to Clearwater Beach or swim in my pool.

o First, stay hydrated! This means water, not carbonated drinks. Or drink fruit juice.
o Dress for the weather! Wear cotton if possible and make sure to use a high SPF for the sun and maybe a hat! Sunglasses are a must, too!
o Stop for frequent breaks out of the sun.
o Eat lightly – no heavy meals. Salads, fruit, sandwiches are good.
o My personal cool-off solution – Dole Whips in Pineapple – intensely refreshing! – but all flavors are good :earboy2:
o Don’t push yourself beyond your limits and use good sense.
o Take a mid-day break if possible – head to your hotel pool or a water park.
o Visit the attractions that are inside with a/c – save the others for nightime
o Use transportation in the parks where possible – especially the Friendship Launches in the lagoon at Epcot
o At Epcot, visit the Ice Station Cool – guaranteed to cool you off fast! :)
o Use one of those fans with an attached water bottle. Purchase it at home – it is costly at WDW. You’ll be the envy of everyone else in line! :smooth:
o Finally, I have no real preference for day or evening hours at the parks when it is hot and humid – during the day, the sun is overwhelming and at night the humidity soars. I guess it depends which is harder on you personally and making a choice.

I like those neck wraps that you soak in water & wring out. They are a lifesaver (we used them on an Aug. trip)

Great tips - so far everything we did was covered. I didn't mind either August or late Sept., both of which were very hot. I did have a better frame of mind for the Aug trip. For the late Sept. one, I hadn't expected it to be as hot as it was & didn't set my mind to it. I'm a firm believer in mind over matter for things like heat, humidity & crowds. Not that I can make them go away, but how I deal with them & how much I enjoy myself is entirely up to me.

Does it stay hot at night? I live in Las Vegas and there is no need for sweatshirts at night during the summer. Will it be like that in WDW in early to mid June? :sunny:

Trust me, you won't need a sweatshirt in June.

You've got some great tips so far! My favorites are water, drink it up! Use a small misting fan. You can buy them at Walmart...look in the summer section and I've seen them in the plumbing section. Leave the parks around lunch time. Eat lunch at the park and then head back to the room or eat lunch at the resort, take a swim, take a nap, have a nice cold shower and head back out to the parks around 4-5. Water, fans, and mid-day swims and naps...it will make a world of difference.

have fun!

I learned "WAGAN: Wrists, Ankles, Groin, Armpits, Neck" in a training course. Those are the areas to keep cool first, if you get heat exahustion, etc..

Someone already mentioned the neck wraps but I also recommend getting a pair of the cheap, cotton wrist bands (like the ones kids wear, you can find them for $50 in machines in movie theaters, even!!) and soak them in cold water. Put them on your wrists and resoak as needed.

To me, that's a lot easier than trying to keep something around your neck, plus I don't like things that are tight around my neck anyways!

Country Bear Jamoboree, Tiki Room are also good indoor places as is the show by Sonny Eclipse at Cosmic Ray's - MK

Epcot any of the movie shows (China, France, Canada and Maelstrom (Norway) all have them)

AK has a lot of misters, Tarzan Rocks is shady, Lion King is indoors

BTW, just as an aside...your body sees fruit juice as food, not water...there really is no substitute for water. (Interesting fact: It takes your body twice as much water to process the caffeine in Soda as there is in the soda, so caffinated soda is a net loss on fluids)
