How to keep kids from getting sick?

Wash your hands often and DO NOT DRINK OUT OF THE WATER FOUNTAINS! Our DD 13 drank out of a water fountain (which we never do) when we were there in July and the next day she came down with a virus causing a high fever and she was in bed all of the 4th of July! (Except she forced herself up because she insisted that she wanted to go see the fireworks at MGM!) She was the only one of us who got sick and it was mid-way through our trip...we felt so bad for her. DH and I kept saying "It's okay, we can get caught up and do some laundry today!" She came down with the fever Sunday night while we were waiting for the MK fireworks...I looked over and her cheeks were red and she was shivering cold....and it was about 98 and humid as heck!

I am in total agreement on the handwashing, but I also take some Lysol AB wipes and just skim things like doorknobs and things you would most touch in the hotel room. I know it sounds quirky, but whenever anyone gets sick at home I do it and it seems to stop the spread of colds and flu right in its tracks. So, I just take a few in a ziploc and hit the door handles, dresser knobs, faucet and flusher handles or buttons. Don't forget the remote! It takes like two minutes and then I do it just like once more during the week. If anything, the next person in the room can be assured we didn't leave too many germs behind.

I also try to keep DD on a tight sleep schedule with normal type meals while on vacation. I know this means we may miss extra magic hours, but it really makes life a lot easier when you get home because they aren't totally out of whack with their sleep times. We were back at the hotel most nights by 10:00 at the latest.
