How to keep a down vest or jacket from "shedding"?

In the past I have had various down jackets and vests, but they always end up losing their down. By the end of the season, I look like I'm trailing a Marabou feather boa or I've attacked by Big Bird!
I have read that I can spray them with Static Guard, but I am reluctant to jump in. Has anyone heard of this or other techniques to keep down from migrating?
