Put the area in cool water. Water with ice cubes in it would be best. If it is on your hand you should go to the ER. The chance for scars interfering with function is pretty high if not treated properly.
If motrin or tylenol doesn't keep the pain at bay, call your doctor or go to ER. How big is the burn? Is it just red, blistered or is it white/black in areas? anything more than a small blister should be seen also.
Don't break any blisters. They are "natures bandaids". Don't put any burn creams, butter or other first aid creams on the area. A clean dry dressing is all you want on it after the pain starts to ease. Watch for signs of infection which are increasing redness, increasing warmth, pain, fever or red streaks.
