We will be staying in a studio in SSR and I remember hearing that all china will be removed from the rooms and only paper and plastic silverware will be available. We enjoy having lunch in our room so I am wondering how to heat up things like soup.

Last time we rented a car and bought cheap bowls at Publix but this time we will use ME to get to the resort. Should I just pack bowls and put them in my luggage all the way from CA? We don't want to shop around in the parks and they may only have plastic bowls???? :confused3

Any ideas?

I'm not sure I understand the question. Is it a condensed soup? If not, you can pour the soup from the can into bowls, then heat the bowls in the microwave. The paper bowls from the studios work fine in the microwave, as I remember. Come to think of it, I have done condensed soup the same way, sort of. I poured the soup into the paper bowl until the bowl was less than half full, then I added about the same amount of water or milk, whichever it called for. Then heat in microwave and serve.

They only give you 4 paper bowls (there never were glass bowls, it was the cups they changed to disposable). You could buy that soup that you heat in the container. If you are not going to the store, are you bringing the soup from CA?

I like larger mugs than are provided and so, I usually bring them. I've heated up soup in them. I haven't made soup that you have to mix, though.

I have never done it so this is just an assumption but maybe you could call guest services and ask for them to send some up? They could take them back when they go around tom pick up room service? not sure that is just a guess if you did not want to use the paper ones.

Also I like the idea of the mugs... you can even buy in Disney and keep as souvenier.

I would consider purchasing a couple of those inexpensive microwave safe plastic bowls and dishes. Even when staying in a 2 bedroom villa, I always bring a few cooking essentials when we go since we usually cook breakfast in the rooms.

They sell a ton of soups now in the lg microvable containers.(like chef boy r dee) It is a nice size for a meal.
I bring them to work all the time.

We were in a studio in the Grandstand Dec 21-24th and we had real glasses and ceramic mugs in our cabinets.

I made the boys hot cocoa and popcorn 1 night. I was glad to see the dishes had been replaced.

Definitely call and ask if they are not in your unit.

I agree with Liferbabe...call and they will bring you glass bowls, cups, etc. (This is an option they provided when they removed them and replaced with paper) They used to be in the studios. I don't cook in the microwave with plastic or paper. DD likes one egg in the am and the cook perfectly in one of the mugs. Enjoy your trip!!

You can request ceramic mugs and real glasses, but I don't think they have ceramic bowls available for the studios (just the one bedroom or larger).

You are all amazing! thanks for the great ideas! I love the large mug idea which is perfect considering that we always buy mugs on our trip as souvenirs. Secondly, I could call SSR directly and ask if they could provide us with bowls upon arrival and if not, I will take the mug idea.

The soups that heat up in their own container are also a fantastic idea but I love my Progresso soups and I will have to check if they come packaged that way.

Thanks again for all your ideas.

At last here in New England Progresso soups also come in microwaveable containers. I use regular cans and mugs at work!

I had no idea they would bring you glass items when asked. Thanks everyone!

The paper issue happened due to some health issues reported in Florida concerning dishes not being cleaned properly by the Housekeepers.

If I remember correctly Disney pulled hard plates if the unit didn't have a dishwasher or the resort didn't have commercial dishwashers installed with Mousekeeper access.

Last month I saw a sign during our stay in one of the studios that hard dishes were available by request along with the Notification Of Exception To Sanitization Requirements disclaimer.

"Notification Of Exception To Sanitization Requirements disclaimer."

Oohhh...that sounds scary!:rotfl:
