DisMike, what does your wife like about cruises? Maybe it's possible she likes them because she can totally relax and kick back. Or does she love the excursions and the opportunities to shop or scuba? I'd find out what really makes her love cruises so much and see if you tie the same qualities in with a DL trip.
Like for example, maybe you + kids and she + mom can do two simultaneous trips to California. Spend some time all together at DL and also see Catalina Island or the beaches. And then maybe let her spend a few extra days just w/ her mom relaxing by the water while you take the kids to DL.
BTW: I think cruises stink. DH and I don't drink much or stay up late. We love getting up early and spending the day hiking and snorkeling (dh can't scuba, so this is our compromise). We can't sit still for 10 minutes, which explain why cruises aren't for us. Tried it, didn't care for it. Totally bored.
