Check the usual sites - Expedia, Travelocity, etc., and then check with the airlines own websites - in every instance that I checked, the airlines' own site offered a cheaper fare. Finally, phone the airlines, sometimes their best deals don't make it onto the 'Net.

You also might want to use a travel search engine like www.sidestep.com or www.quixo.com. They'll search the before mentioned websites as well as many of the airline websites plus other travel websites. Sidestep will also search Southwest Airline website which Expedia and Travelocity won't include.

They'll do the same for hotels and car rentals too.

Thanks tink2dw for the correction. I think my finger automatically hits the "u" after the "q".

Just a quick FYI - qixo will only accept reservations if you have a credit card with a U.S. address - which is, of course, not much use to those of us from the Great White North!!

Another thing - some of the best deals never make it onto the 'Net - the Kids Fly Free promo by Alaska Airlines is an example.

And one last thing - it pays to KEEP checking hotel rates right up to departure - I've just saved US$75 because today's rate is better than the one shown 2 weeks ago! Just make sure that you don't have to pay any penalty under the hotel's cancellation policy when you cancel and re-book (oh yes, and re-book FIRST and cancel the old reservation second).

HTH and happy travelling to all!!!!!
