That's exactly what we're doing! I'm packing bathing suits, sunscreen, diapers, change of clothing for dinner and any other essentials we might need just in case.
Except for the sunscreen, pack all of those essentials in a CARRY-ON BAG, not a separate checked bag. What if the airline delays your luggage??? To me, the entire reason for taking ANYTHING in a carry-on (except for things I'll want while I'm actually inside the airplane) is to provide me with a sort of
travel insurance in case the airline delays my luggage. My swim stuff, change of clothes, etc., and I'm good to go even if my airline flies me to MCO but flies my bags to MCI and then gets them to me 12 hours later.
Maybe we're nuts

, but we're shipping/mailing toiletries to our resort. Disney resorts will hold packages for guests up to 5 days prior to check-in date. I'll time it so it gets there within that window, so I can call before I leave home to make sure the package arrived.
By doing this, we won't have to unnecessarily slow ourselves down by going to baggage claim to wait for a single bag. I love the DME automatic luggage delivery, but in all honesty, if I was going to slow myself down to wait for one bag, I might as well just get them all at that point and take them all to the bus with me. To me, the benefit of the DME luggage delivery is the time savings, not the lack of lugging the stuff around.
And even though 99% of us know this, I write this for the 1% who don't: If you plan to claim any checked bags yourself at baggage claim, DO NOT put the yellow DME luggage tag on any bag(s) you will claim yourself. DME luggage tags should be put ONLY on bags you want to have automatically delivered to your resort.
