Who knew that baked potatoes were flammable??

I was cooking a baked potato in the microwave tonite for DS and somehow the potato got wedged between the turntable and the back and FRIED. Smoke billowed out of the microwave and now the entire house reeks of smoke. :scared:

We opened the sliding doors, kitchen window and turned on the exhaust fan but the place still smells BAD. :crazy2:

It is 20 degrees outside so having the windows and doors open makes it FREEZING in the house.

I sprayed some Febreeze air freshener but that didn't seem to do much.:confused3

My ex is a firefighter and he is rolling laughing at me for doing this (he's so much help). He told me to shut the heat off and open all the windows for several hours. Is there any other way to get this smell GONE??

And I thought my leaky ceiling was my biggest house problem right now!

Paint the walls. Burnt popcorn in the microwave stayed in the air for months at work. We had to paint the walls.

LOL! A few months ago I burned a potato in my microwave. I forgot to poke holes in it and next thing I know, smokes coming out of the microwave. The house smelled really bad for a few days and eventually the smell went away.

some really good scented candles - like Village Candles from Maine or Yankee Candles - would probably help a great deal, but of course you would have to stay awake to keep an eye on them.. Nothing worse than a "burnt, smokey" smell in the house..

I wouldn't even be able to sleep with that odor lingering in the air.. :(

I have one of those air purifiers ionizer boxes...works great for stuff like this!:thumbsup2

I had a kitchen fire about two months ago. Unfortunately, the only way I found to get the smell out was leaving the windows open, the fans on, and continously spray FeBreeze until it was gone. I wish I knew an easier way.

I know this works for fish, so it might work for smoke. Try boiling vinegar. You can even do it in the microwave. Also try making a paste of baking soda and vinegar and cleaning the inside of the microwave. If the microwave is ruined-then just boil the vinegar on the stove top.

I am not sure it will help-but it can't hurt.

Oh great. Bring your paintbrush and come on over!

I can't. I have a headache from the smell. :(

Ship it on over. I'll try anything!

Ugh I didn't even think about my microwave being ruined! I will try the vinegar in the AM.

Thanks for the suggestions. This just stinks - literally!
