sit close enough that when they ask for volunteers, you can jump up, raiser your hand and be noticed. I was chosen this past January. That is a slow time of year, so I did not have much competition. It was alot of fun!
very interesting...i never made the connection. but my dad always wore hawaiian shirts, and he always volunteered and was picked. that was his most favorite thing to do at wdw.
HI...for that particular show, it helps to get there EARLY....walk in well before showtime. Wearing something like a funny Disney hat helps you get 'noticed'. But the people used as real 'extras' are chosen long before the show begins.
Good luck!
My husband was chosen from the handicapped row at the top of the 'stadium'.
He was wearing a grey Big Dogs t-shirt. He was the one who got 'shot' during that show. He is a H-A-M and loved every minute of it! It was absolutely HILARIOUS! He grasped his chest and staggered backwards, swayed back and forth then finally fell.
You mean you should report half an hour before the audience is let in and also sit in the audience and jump up and down? Actuall it is easier this way because you aren't competing with everyone else.
For the Pearl Harbor extras at Backstage Tour all you need to do is inquire in advance of a show, although the shows are so frequent that lots of people can get to try out.
We went to Disney over Spring Break in 2004, and its really busy! My kids (both boys) LOVE Indiana Jones, and wanted Mom to get picked. We went to MGM on it's slower days. Our groups strategy was to arrive at the first show, since many persons hit the big rides early. I sat about the fifth row from the front, in a seat next to the "center" aisle. I didn't wear anything special, but smiled alot and acted really animated before the show started. The CMs usually "scout" the audience beforehand, but you won't notice them. Clap really loud when the show starts...I whooped it up to my kids chagrin. When they asked for volunteers, I jumped up right away and waved my hands. My kids shouted,"Pick my Mom!" to my chagrin. I'm sure I was somewhat annoying to those seated around us, but I got picked! I even got a photo and autograph of "Indy" after the show. I was one of the shoppers in the background. The costume was not very flattering but I got to see the show up front and center! GO FOR IT!
My dh is almost always in it. He is bald and usually is wearing a shirt with a big Disney character on it. When they ask for volunteers, my kids (who are older) go crazy pointing to him. We also are usually sitting fairly near the front -- the show is much better from close proximity.
My dh is a big ham and enjoys this a lot. He did an evil laugh one of his Indie appearances, and I KNOW people in the audience thought it was recorded!
We went last year and my brother wanted to be picked. You have to wear a distinguishable shirt... something they can call out "You in yellow!" "You in the USA tank top!" whatever... You have to jump and yell and scream and look like you'll actually make a good helper. My brother also got to do the evil laugh. He made the audience gasp, the CM's gasp and small children cry... it was great. He also got to be the one who was shot. The way you do that is when they take you upstairs to dress you, they'll ask for someone to be the first person in line behind the CM when you walk down. Be that person! Then you'll get to at all your friends and family from the stage.
