How to get large amount to liquid to WDW?

We know we'll need to do laundry while at WDW - my DD1 has excema and we need to use a "no perfume no dye" detergent for all of our family's clothing. I'm quite certain this would be hard to get our hands on down there, so our plan had always been to just carry on a big ol' jug of our own on the plane. However, with all the new restrictions on liquids, this will now be impossible.

Any thoughts on how we could pack it in our checked luggage? I just know if we do it's going to explode. Advice? Suggestions?

Maybe you could bring one that is half full. I don't think it would explode like that, but it might leak. You can pack it in those BIG ziplocks they have now. Also go look at your local thrift store for a hard-case suitcase. If you can't find one there you can buy smaller ones from Walmart and Target (a thrift one would be a lot cheaper though). That way if it gets thrown around, it might be a bit safer from being crushed.
Also, do you HAVE to do laundry while you are there?
I just bring bunches of clothes and don't worry about doing laundry.

I know that a lot of people have sent items through UPS/Fed Ex to their hotel so it was there when they arrived. That should work...I have not seen any post where anyone had a problem doing this.

How soon will you be traveling? I have seen many times that you can send a package down to your hotel that you are staying at (are you staying on property?) with your name, hotel, and arrival date. Not sure if anything else must be on the label, but it may certainly be easier than putting in your checked luggage.

Most people that I have heard that do this, seem to send it down about 10 days to 2 weeks before arrival. Just a thought.

We also have a DS with allergies and ecsema - I normall use All Free & Clear. I have found that CVS carries a free and clear detergent in their trial size/travel section that I've used without problem. It is liquid but individual packages so I buy a few and put them in ziplock bags in the luggage.

If you mean it would be hard to get it on-property, you would be correct -- Disney stocks the laundry rooms with standard Tide products, and they are often out of detergent, so I've always found it easier to supply my own.

If the detergent you are speaking of is a standard commercial product such as All Free & Clear, it is widely available in Florida and should be available at any large supermarket/general mdse. store, as long as you have the means to get there, or to have a grocery service deliver it to your hotel.

Also, I haven't tried this product yet, but I've been meaning to. There is a new gel-pack detergent on the market called Dropps, that comes in a free/clear formula. I've used this type of gel-pack in Europe when travelling, and they are wonderfully convenient. The ones I purchased in the UK didn't burst on planes, but I can't answer for this brand yet. http://www.dropps.com/

How many loads do you plan on doing! I'd just buy some of the empty shampoo type bottles at walmart for 75 cents and pour some into a couple and put them in a zip lock bag in the middle of your suitcase. I've flown with liquids many, many times and have never had one leak. I can't imagine unless you are going for a month needing more than a cup or so of deterg, which is how much shampoo people fly with all the time.

Awesome suggestions, everyone - thank you so much. For some reason I just wasn't coming up with anything, but I knew you guys would pull through! :-)

Thanks again!

This is exactly what I do - I use the All Free and Clear. Since it comes in the small and mighty now you only need about 2 tbsps for a full load. A a travel size shampoo bottle holds more than enough for my vacation laundry. I pour the small and mighty into the shampoo bottle and then double zip lock it just in case and pack it in my checked luggage with my toiletries.

Definetaly make sure you double zip lock bag it.

I packed liquid in a zip lock bag & then in another one & then all the zip lock bags went into another one & it did seep thru one of the bags (not the outer one).

But we UPS'd it down. The last time I just packed powder in bags.

My ds has excema too but as long as we avoid his food allergins his exema doesn't show up.

I have to use Dreft, and I usually measure out a full loads' worth into a baggie, and then put a couple of those baggies into a bigger baggie.

HTH!

The last time we went down we measured out a few days worth of powder detergent and put them into seperate small ziploc bags then put all the small bags into a large ziploc bag. I also made sure to write very big and very clear LAUNDRY DETERGENT..lol

WHAT I DO IS TAKE A FEW WASH CLOTHES AND POUR THE DETERGENT ON THEM AND PUT THEM IN QUART SIZE ZIP LOCK BAGS. A SEPARATE BAG PER LOAD. I THEN JUST PUT A WASH CLOTH IN THE LOAD I AM DOING AND PRESTO THE SOAP IS ADDED. ALSO THEY LAY FLAT ENOUGH TO NOT TAKE UP TO MUCH SPACE AND ARE FLATTER SO NO PUNCTURES. I BOUGHT SOME WHITE THIN WASH CLOTHS FOR THIS REASON CAUSE THEY ARE COLOR FREE AND MOT TO LINTY :laundy:

Check into gardengrocer.com as they deliver right to your hotel and offer a larger variety of groceries. They might be a bit spendy if only getting laundry soap as they have a flat delivery fee but if you need bottled water, soda, snacks, diapers, etc. then it would be worth it to order from them and have it delivered to your resort.

We used them in September and it was awesome!! :thumbsup2
