How to get clear picture of last scene in Haunted Mansion?

For a long time, I've been trying to get a picture at the end of the Haunted Mansion ride, where a ghost appears to be in the ride vehicle with you.

I've tried many different settings on the camera, and different cameras, but it always ends up too dark to see much of anything.

To those of you who were able to get a clear picture of this - what settings did you use on your camera?

Thanks in advance.

Is your photo too dark or too blurry? How high are you comfortable going with ISO? Do you have a fast lens?

I'd try taking a video and then seeing if you can grab a picture from the video

If you DO get a clear shot, your camera will be seen in the photo.

Too dark. I have a Fuji XP. I need to check its range for those parameters.

Tried that, but it was still all dark.

OK, still better than not getting a good photo.

It's the holiday version, but same approach.

ISO 25600, f/2.0, SS 1/40.
Gorgeous, thanks!

mom2rtk, do you use autofocus or manual focus? I haven't had a lot of luck getting my camera's auto-focus to come into focus when shooting the hitch-hiking ghosts. I can get it work for the end of HMH (most times), but not the regular HM. Any thoughts?

I can only get it when I shoot in manual with my DSLR and a longer lens, crank the ISO, and a low shutter speed, just like the sample above. I have never been able to get it on my iPhone as it tries to hard to "help" balance the light.

Has anyone been able to accomplish with a point and shoot type automatic camera, with a built-in lens, but adjustable settings?

Not familiar with that model, but does it have an exposure compensation setting? You could just dial in some extra exposure if they're all coming out dark. Or if you do manual settings, turn up the shutter speed (within reason since movement becomes a problem on rides). Or maybe you just need a higher ISO.

I used auto focus. I choose a brighter area near the center of the scene, lock focus, and recompose and shoot. I also shoot on burst mode so my chances of a sharp photo increase.

We haven't gotten to do the non-holiday HM in a long time, so I'm not certain of the advice there. Maybe HMH has brighter projections in that scene? It could also just be that some lenses are better (and faster) at focusing than others.

I'm surprised you're getting it with a longer lens. Usually the longer lenses need a faster shutter speed to be sharp. You must have steadier hands than I do!

Honestly? Without a DSLR I'd probably put the device down and just enjoy the ride. Shots like this generally require the high ISO and greater light gathering of a fast lens.

If you figure out anything with the Fuji XP I'd be curious to know. I bought one purposely to use under adverse conditions such as wet & rainy. My experience with it so far is unacceptable for what should be normal conditions or indoor where flash is needed. All my pictures come out too dark & blue tinged which I recall being reasons I didn't like to use Fuji brand films back in the days before digital cameras. I've been using it my last few trips because I dropped & broke my beloved tiny Canon Elph last fall. Not going to pay to have it repaired because that would cost more than an upgraded replacement which I finally just received.
