How to get alcohol?

We will be three adults (plus two kids) staying in a two bedroom this summer and we like to have a beer or a Mike's Hard Lemonade in our room at the end of the day. I am trying to figure out if there is any easy way to do this other than buying the expensive, low quality beer in the Mercantile (and do they even sell Mike's?)

We are flying in and taking ME to the hotel so we won't have a car. We are getting the DDP so we don't need a grocery delivery that we can add the beer too (which is what we did last year).

I guess I can get a cab to a store and back which will be pricey but at least get us better beer. Is there a liquor store within walking distance of DTD? Maybe I could take the bus to DTD, walk to the store, and then take a cab home. Does anyone know of any other options for getting alcohol?

I think you can buy it at duty free and get it when you get off the plane. Not 100% sure, but I dont see why not? There must be somewhere in the airport to buy booze.

good luck!!

Pack it in a cooler and send it on as a carryon. We did this last year and everything got there fine. Wrap the bottles in bubble wrap (from the Dollar Tree) and pack a beach towel around them. We closed the cooler with a luggage strap so the security could get into it without any problems. Much cheaper than buying everything down there.

:confused3 I thought you couldn't bring liquid on the plane anymore? Doesn't everything have to fit in a qt size baggie now?

I'm thinking she means to send in with the checked luggage, not carry on. But personally, I wouldn't trust it to arrive.

Your best bet may be to use a grocery delivery service. I don;t know if wegosho will deliver alcohol, but it has ben reported that garden grocer will...but you have to call and place the request, not through the website.

Where are you staying at? The Hess across the street from the BW (2min walk)has a selection of beer adn I am pretty sure I saw Mike's there also.

Even if you aren't renting a car, you can get to a a grocery store (called Gooding's I think) just outside the DTD exit of Hotel Plaza Blvd. Basically, go straight through the light at the end of Hotel Plaza into the shopping center. There is also others on 192 (out by AK). Gooding's isn't the "cheapest", but it is close and convenient. Other thing to do would be to look for Publix on the web and get directions to the closest one. I'm sure you can get a taxi or something to there.

I was also going to suggest checking out the gas station/convenience stores. There's one by BWV and one by DD -- both have a pretty good selection of items and prices were reasonable. I'm pretty sure there's a big liquor store in the shopping center next to the Gooding's described above. Goodings has a very big wine selection.

You could also have a grocery service like GardenGrocer deliver it to you. they charge $10 for delivery (minimum order of $40 - free delivery for $200 or more).

Their website does not list alcohol, but they can/will deliver it also - we have done this on our last 2 trips.

Enjoy!

Duty free does not apply if you are flying from MA. It's not a foreign country!

Duty Free shops in most places will not even allow you IN without the departure ticket to a foreign destination.

Checking a cooler of beer on a airplane does not seem like a good idea to me.
You cannot carry it and it could break in cargo hold.
It will give you one more piece of luggage to worry about
How about slipping the bell man a few bucks and I bet you will get a case of your favorite brew at reasonable cost.

if you can not find a willing valet how much could a cab cost from DVC to goodings or publix?
seems like a lot of work to save 10 bucks.

There is a Winn dixie that is down the street from Goodings and also a liquor store in the same parking lot. It is approximately a mile from DTD so a cab probably wouldn't be that much unless you keep it waiting and the meter is running. I think I would go with one of the delivery services. A rental car for one day would be in the $33 range but if you had other things you wanted to do it might be worth it. We rented one at the Grosvenor Hotel on Hotel Blvd. and it was a great place to rent from. We are looking at the same situation for September and haven't decided exactly what we will do yet.

Although gardengrocer.com will deliver alcoholic beverages they do not count toward the minimum $40 grocery order or so Brian (the owner) told me when I placed my order for our 2/4/07 trip.

They have some wines for sale at the store next to Earl of Sandwich at DD.

hmm I thought Massachusetts was a foreign country. (sorry I could not resist)

I am shocked that there is this much knowledge out there to get alcohol with out a car. Reading all these posts made me want to drink! I would give it up for the week with this much effort.

Sorry I did mean putting it in the checked baggage. We've done this several times without any problems, I wouldn't suggest cans but bottles have always worked well. Just remember to put them in a hard cooler with lots of packing around them! Saved us alot of money!

Across the road from the entrance to Pleasure Island there's a gas station with a small convenience store. Pretty good selection of beer there, plus a limited wine selection. Like someone else said, they're 'normal' prices (not Disney!).

Wegoshop.com does deliver alcohol. We enjoyed a case of beer and 2 large bottles of Mike-arita's (a "margarita" drink from the makers of Mike's Hard Lemonade) during our November stay. They mainly shop at Wal-mart. They charge you the same price they paid for it plus their delivery fee. Enjoy ;)

DEE! Alcohol is reason enough to get a grocery delivery! Then add on pretzels, chips, dip, how about a frozen pizza, some other munchies, more beer...

I love this thread. I just booked my first trip home for September and was trying to figure out how to get a bunch of beer. THANK YOU!
