DS turns 13 one month before the cruise. We don't want him (and he doesn't want to be) in the Teen Club. (Especially after reading the great advice on this board!)
Is there a "formal" procedure for asking DCL to allow him to join his brother in the Oceaneer Lab? TIA

You need to speak with the head lab counselor once you are onboard....being he is only one month into being 13 I do not think it would a problem but you must clear it with the counselor first.

Good luck!

There is normally more of an issue with a child going "up" when the ages are close than going "down", as you will be requesting. As long as they have room (not exceeded the amount of kids they can have in the particular age group - counselor to child ratio), it should not present a problem. Hope it works out for you. - Mike

I am in the exact same situation for next April. My son will be turning 13 four days before the cruise. But I would rather him be with his 12 yr. old brother, than his 16 yr. old brother. So I asked about it when booking, and they said he will have no problem going "down" to that club. No worries. When is your cruise?

I think you will be able to do this. Just go on the first day and sign him and explain that he 'just' turned 13 and you want him to be with kids closer to his age (10-12).

We always travel on my twin DDs birthday, and the year they turn 13 I plan for them to still go to the lab (they will be 12 the day they board, turn 13 during the cruise). Last year I did this with no problem with the 8/9 group. My DDs turned 10 on the cruise, but I put them in the 8/9 group (I prefer for my kids to the the 'older' in the group rather than the 'youngest'.). They were fine!

I think it is easier to go 'down' than it is to go 'up' in age groups as long as it is within a few months of the cut off.
