How to dress for the heat?

We are going to the World in mid-August, and although we come from a sunny and hot climate, it is nothing compared to the heat and humidity we expect to experience in Orlando. :3dglasses

I wanted to know how YOU dress for the heat? What types of clothes (especially tops) do you wear (ladies!) and how do you dress your kids (especially boys).

I've bought a couple of t-shirts with "Duo Fit" wicking action (whatever that means).

I am looking for specific suggestions (brands, etc.) on how to dress myself (slim female) and my DS (slim 8 y.o.).

Thanks so much!

:flower3:

I prefer light colored, light weight and loose fitting t-shirts for me and light weight shorts. I stay away from anything really dark in colors or tight fitting.

I have bought Columbia shorts and shirts for DH and I - the kind made for fishing. Besides being cool and wicking away moisture, they dry super quick. So I can wash them at night, hang to dry and they will be ready the next day is needed!!

Many companies make the lightweight clothing - I think LL Bean's are called "Tropic weight"

Walmart is currently selling Danskin stay-dri tee shirts for $5!!
I agree loose, light colors are best.

I have a few Danskin shorts from Wal Mart - lightwieght, cool and dry quickly overnight. I've typically worn tank tops, but I've decided that I'll go with lightwieght cotton tunic style tops. Way cooler than a t-shirt or the moisture wicking shirts I own.

Light colours all the way - black is great for hiding dirt but it's really uncomfortable in the heat.

I wear denim jeans and t shirts....................:lmao::lmao::lmao:

No, just kidding :rotfl2: I think I'd PASS out if I wore those :rotfl2:
I actually wear skorts or skirts, 9mid thigh, not too long and not short) and a top that is generally no sleeve and light weight as well. I just feel better being a bit dressier especially since we go to a TS for a meal each day.
Its my own hang up, I know....many many are in shorts, and that is ver acceptable....it just does not feel right for me. I also wear flat type sandals and no, I really do not get blisters...I wear thong type sandals and wear them ALL spring and summer, I am ADDICTED to them....so cool on feet!
Have a great time, most important...KEEP HYDRATED!!!

We'll be there in August as well ( 9th - 16th ) so I'm buying all light color and light weight t-shirts and shorts.

For myself and my girls, I've bought a few tank tops and simple sundresses. DH's on his own with picking out comfy shorts but I had to get him white or light color t-shirts as he tends to wear alot of black or dark blue.

Also, grab a small personal fan to carry for while waiting in line. And a hat or visor for sun protection!

Any of the sport type clothes. Forget all cotton. It will get soaking wet in the heat and stay wet. Then you walk into the air conditioning you'll be freezing.

I usually wear skorts or capris - I find that if I wear shorts that aren't long enough, the humidity causes them to stick and ride up, and then I get a most painful rash on my thighs (oh to have slim thighs!). Light colours as others have said. And lots of visits into the gift shops for a/c!!:goodvibes

stay away from jeans and dark color clothes. id wear loose fitting shorts and tank tops. that will be the best way to stay a lil cool

I will wear short skorts, shorts, or sundresses.

I ALWAYS wear a straw cowboy hat. Keeps the sun off my face, top of my head, and my shoulders and ears and I look sexy ;).

Some things I avoid:

Spaghetti Strap tops-your shoulders will fry no matter how much sunscreen you put on them. Do the sleeveless or short sleeved instead.

white tops-if you get wet on a ride or rained on it's see-through.

open toed shoes-your feet get stepped on and the sun beating down on the tops of your feet will fry them.

cornrows-you'll get sunburned on the new parts and wish you were dead. It's especially awesome when your scalp starts peeling and you still have the cornrows in. Gross.

Jeans. I only wear them at Disney in the wintertime, and only ones with spandex in them because the classic jeans are just not that comfortable for all the moving around you do in Disney.

DH always wears cargo shorts because we go bagless and I shove everything, including an empty backpack, into the shorts to get through the no-bag entrance. Then we pull everything out of his pockets, put it in the bag, and we're off. He always wears a hat, too-baseball caps are useless because your ears and neck will still get fried-he has a battered old Indiana Jones on safari type hat he bought at the MK near the Aladdin ride. He loves that thing!

I also never wear a swimsuit into Disney under my clothes, I've found it ends up being very, very uncomfortable by the end of the day-it chafes against your regular clothes.

Oh yeah, and for those of you who like to wear oversized t shirts with leggings or stretch pants underneath them, be aware that when you sweat, a favorite place for sweat to start is right at the center of your heinie. I can't tell you how many people I've walked behind in t-shirts and spotty sweaty stretch pants where they thought the t-shirt would cover their butt, but when they leaned forward to push a stroller or raised their arms for any reason-:scared:. Not a good look for hot weather, people.

Thanks for all the tips. We are going the 1st week in June & know it will be much warmer then where we live (the mountains of PA). We haven't been in June since our kids were in high school & that was several years ago. Looking forward to our trip as we are taking a couple who has never been there. Just wish we were as young as they are but we seem to turn into kids when we get to Disney.

Hi. We always go in June, probably not too much cooler than August.

I always put my sons in the dry wick tank tops. Old Navy has a good variey usually. Now Target carries them, but with limited colors. They wash super easy and dry in a few hours. I try to keep them looking similar to each other just to keep track of them in huge crowds. I let them choose if they want to wear their mickey crocs of tennis shoes. We go back to room mid day each day to avoid the worst of the heat and we can all change if we want to then.

I always wear tank tops, I usually wear cotton type shorts that zip and button, only because I think it is hard to find the dry-wick type shorts that aren't too short for an adult. I make sure that they are very comfy, not to tight. I also live in my crock flip flops every day of the year, so my feet don't hurt in them. Although, I can get blisters just thinking about it and not actually walking. No kidding. I can't wear tennis shoes, just too hot at WDW.
This year I am goin to try some cargo shorts instead of carrying a bag. We'll see how that goes over. I am always the pack mule. I have always carried a fanny sack, but I vowed not to this year. I always end up with another bag in hand anyway.

We always pick light colors, even when my kids wear red or orange they say it feels hotter.

Good luck and have fun.

I just got back from my local Goodwill bought several light colored (printed) women an mens shirts all with long sleeves I'll cut the sleeves out put a small hem around arm hole an have some nice cool shirts for disney. Wish I'd thought of this sooner as I could have been buying the shirts the tag color of the week for a buck instead of paying the 4.00 a piece I paid today. Oh well still cheaper than off the rack at most any other store.

Ladies it is so easy to cut the sleeves out or shorten them an have a cap sleeve to protect shoulders the light weight button up shirts tend to be cooler than regular tank shirts too they breathe an dry quickly as well.

I'd like to try a cool max shirt but they cost more than what I can spend right now in my size.

Great tips here, thx!

PP who mentioned sports clothes instead of all cotton :thumbsup2
Target has C9 on sale for women this week.
