I am planning to stay at POFQ on our next vacation at WDW. My DD-14 says she likes the All Stars/Pop better. When I showed her all the pictures of POFQ and POR on AllEars she said she did not like it. She said she would rather stay at a Disney Resort! We have stayed at ASMu and Pop with the huge icons and because POFQ doesn't have those, she didn't think it was a Disney resort. Anyone have any convincing evidence for a teenager that POFQ is a "cool" resort? I have wanted to stay there since the first time I saw pictures of it and really don't want to go to All Stars or Pop this time. Please help :confused3

Just take a walk down to the pool. Look for dancing gators. Some are
playing musical instruments. Have her read street signs. See if she
gets a sign with a pun on it.

If she doesn't think there's any "Disney" in POFQ, let us know. :)

 Oops, just noticed I put this in the Restaurant board. Hope someone moves it for me!

1. It's in Disney World. Of course it's fun.
2. You can pick the resort when you can pay for the trip.

Can you tell I don't have a teenager yet? :rotfl:

1) Port Orleans has the coolest waterslide in any resort. You come out of a dragons mouth.
2) Value resorts don't even HAVE waterslides.
3) The boys are cuter here.
4) Value resorts have WAY more little kids than teens.
5) Uber cool arcade
6) Water rides to Downtown Disney (which is full of boys)
7) Barring that she can always work in the local cement factory to pay for the trip herself. :earsgirl:

Sorry, can't help you. I am with your teen. Our family thinks all stars or Pop is much much better than PO. Good luck!

You know I have sat here agonizing which resort to pick to keep my son(14) happy, and my daughter (in college) IF she decides to go.
I had the contemporary booked(see my other post below), then I cancelled it.
The last time we went , my son said AKL was boring.(except for the pool). We had a savannah view room. I thought it was great. Now I am looking at how much cheaper PORFQ is, and I am thinking..... too bad for both of them. I am going to save the money, and they can just be grateful that I am willing to take them to disney. I am the mom , and they are not! lol

My thought is this..."how do you know you don't like something if you've never tried it?" Of course that is such a Mom saying and if my Mom had said that to me, I probably would have just rolled my eyes.

On a personal level, this post makes me cry, Specifically
She said she would rather stay at a Disney Resort!

Polynesian and Contemporary, these are Disney resorts, built by people who worked with Walt and knew what he wanted. POFQ is pretty darn close to as good.
They also used to be significant;y less expensive then they are today.

It really upsets me that someone out there thinks that Walt's legacy is 20 foot tall fiberglass bowling pins.

On a practical level, you've gotten some good advice. show her all the other features, the better pool. etc etc etc.

I have stayed at POFQ 3x... and believe me.. there's tons of teenagers there just as much as preschoolers/toddlers. The teenagers tend to stay in the deeper area and the little ones in the more shallower. Not only little kids go down the slide... but the adults too.

What's nice about POFQ is that you can hop on the boat and use POR amenities. So you can swim there too.. and bike and rent a boat...

POFQ is great for all ages... it is very charming.. quaint.. peaceful and very romantic... yet it is still very fun for children of all ages!

Just tell her that Jessie McCartney will be there. That ought to get her. Seriously she is doing what many people, especially kids do. Evidently her memories to WDW are sentimentally attached to the All Stars resort you guys stayed at before. To her that is Disney and nothing in her mind could compare to those stays. It is safe to say that she had a blast before and that is great. It probably makes you feel great that she had such a wonderful time. But, like a previous poster noted, how would you know you DON'T like something if you do not try it. Your concern is really "what if I decide on POFQ and she hates it?". You will believe that the trip was ruined and it is your fault. You are very concerned for her feelings and wanting to make sure that she has a good time. I'll bet she is as concerned about your feelings and wants you to have a good time too. If she has not heard you explain how much you want to stay there then assure her that she will have fun. She is older now and she needs to add some new things to her experiences. She will have a great time at POFQ. The Pool is far better than the All Stars in my opinion. Everything at POFQ is still very much Disney. My daughters are 7 and 10. I too stayed at ASMu the first trip for them. I too was concerned about what they may think about POFQ. Afterall they had only been to WDW once and they had not known anything else. They are in the years where the icons of Disney so visable at the All Stars are a big part of their love of the place. I booked POFQ as my wife and I had decided we loved the place or at least what we knew of it. My kids absolutely fell in love with POFQ and do not want to go back to the All Stars. Your daughter is older than they are and I am sure that she will love it too. It is a different sort of place than the budget resorts that does not seem to translate into a very different experience as far as the fun. Each resort has it's own appeal. It may be that she stil comes away thinking that the All Stars are better but at least she tried it and she it would not be something that would ruin her trip. Now I am through playng Doctor Phil. I need my own TV show.

Unfortunately, my teenage boys didn't like POFQ that much (at 16 & 17)

There were lots of cute girls to talk to at the value pools

3) The boys are cuter here.

Yep, especially when my boys were there :teeth:

4) Value resorts have WAY more little kids than teens.

That may be true, but once again lots more teens at values :-)

5) Uber cool arcade

The boys like the arcade better at All-Stars

6) Water rides to Downtown Disney (which is full of boys)

True, quick ride to Disney Quest :-)

7) Barring that she can always work in the local cement factory to pay for the trip herself. :earsgirl:
