How to contact a celebrity?

I know this is going to sound wierd at first, but I want to contact Barry Manilow. Either by sending a letter or an email.

Basically, my sister is a HUGE fan. She has had a rough life and has just completed rehab. She is doing AWESOME and has really turned her life around. I am sooooo happy for her and would love to do something REALLY special for her. I don't know if it would work, but I wanted to ask for something autographed from Barry Manilow. I know that is something she would treasure.

Does anyone know how I find out the email address or snail mail address to send a letter?

I'm not sure how to get in contact with Barry, but you may want to step into the Clay Aiken thread - I know there are some Barry fans in there (and at least one BIG Barry fan, Cookie) who might be able to help you. Good luck!!

I can not belive I just googled Barry Manilow!

There are several ways you could try. I'd try through his fan club
http://www.barrynet.com/ or http://www.barrymanilow.com/ and see if they can help. Of course they will probablly want you to join. I'm not sure which one has more access to Barry.

You could also try going through his management company http://www.stilettoentertainment.com/ Or contacting his Vegas show http://www.musicandpassion.com/

I would try the management company and write a letter to his manager.

You DO realize that the chance of him reading any fanmail and personally responding to it is basically zero......there are folks who "handle" the requests/fanmail and everyone has a "story" that THEY think is super special (and it is....to them) but it's just another request to the flacks who do the mail. I know this is not the answer you want, but instead of getting your hopes up (and the stars DO NOT personally autograph - the flacks do it) maybe you could find another way to express your joy to your sister.

You can run a search on Celebrity Addresses and you'll pull up lots of sites. Several years ago, I got an autographed picture of Mark Hamill for my exh that way. He's a huge Star Wars fan.

Make sure you include a self-addressed stamped manilla envelope when you mail a request.

You know, back in the day, I wrote to Princess Diana. And while I didn't get anyhting directly from her, I did get a very nice letter from Buckingham Palace.

I also wrote to Dorothy Gilman and Lillian Jackson Braun, two of my favorite authors. I got handwritten notes from both of them! I was thrilled!

I did, however, write to Mel gibson, and I got nothing in reply.

I'd say it's worth a try. Why not? The worst that can happen is nothing. Or maybe they will send you something for your sister. Or, who knows. Maybe Barry will happen to be in town and show up at her doorstep.

I do completely understand that this could result in nothing, and I'm not even telling my sister about it. But I figured it's worth a shot, right?

I plan on giving her the lyrics to "I Made It Through The Rain" framed to hang on her bedroom wall to show her how happy I am for her and how proud I am of her.
