So I'm finally in my new to me house and thought I would keep the previous owner's stove and fridge since they are only 2 years old. Well the stove is a white top, flat cooktop. How the heck do I keep that clean?

I had a black flattop cooktop which was a little difficult to keep clean, but since it was black it would hide the burn marks a little bit. I boiled potatoes today and was left with marks all over the stove; i cooked bacon and was left with marks all over the stove

I'm trying to keep this house clean. Help!

softsoap works great!

so does Ceramibrite (sp?) we get it at Home Depot, but I think that you can get it anywhere

I feel your pain !! i just moved into a new house, and my cousin gave us a fairly new Stovetop, he was remodeling and getting a new one for his own house. He gave us his, and it is a white flat top, every single time i cook anything there is crazy huge black burn marks ! every time you cook you have to spend 5 minutes scrubbing it off, whoever designed those things was stupid., I cant wait to get rid of it and get a gas stove or a regular electric. What i have found works is a flat razorblade and any type of cleaning product made for flat top stoves, there are quite a few of them out there, combined with a razor blade it comes off fairly easy.

I am so with you on this! I had a black one before and it was fine. Now I have a beige one and I can't clean it for the life of me. I tried various cooktop cleaners and scrubbing bubbles. The only way I get it cleaned is to have hubby use his muscle power on it. Very frustrating!
And as soon as you boil water, it starts all over again. Never again!

WOW, a razor blade? I think I'd be scared to death to scratch the surface to death

Actually, it works really well. You do have to be careful by keeping the glade at an angle while you're scraping to avoid scratches. I use the blade to remove the big messes, then I apply Cerama Brite to the entire area. Work that in, let it sit for a few minutes, then clean off. :thumbsup2

My cooktop is black. I've never seen a white one. I'm sure it's much harder to keep clean.

Buy the cleaner for the stovetop. A nylon scrubbie works great with it. Put it on when the stove is cool and let it set a while for stubborn stains. I use a plastic scraper to loosen tough stains if needed.

If you read the owner's manual it probably says to use a razor blade (the flat ones you use to scrape paint, etc.). Just let the burner cool and scrape. It works amazingly well! We had a flat top stove in our old house that is now 12 years old and it still looks brand new, no scratches.

I have a white one as well...HATE the thing...it is part of my rental...UGH..

Mine unfortunatly was scratched all up before I got it...but I do use a razor blade, some multi-purpose cleaner, and some elbow grease...I usually spray mine down after it cools, let it soak a min or 2...scrape off the majority of it, then wipe clean.

The lazy woman's solution:

I bought two large glass decorative cutting boards that I place side-by-side on the stovetop when not in use to "protect" it. I only scrub the top about once a week to actually remove all of those stains. In between it's just a good wipedown followed by a cover job with the cutting boards.

That is exactly what you use! I was skeptical before the appliance installer told me that was what to use. I use the stovetop cleaner first, then scrape the rest with a razerblade.

My smoothtop came with one. It's not just a razorblade, it comes with a protective cover. You scrape at an angle so it doesn't cut into anything. I use it on big messes, then I spray on some Greased Lightening and let it sit, lastly I use a nylon scrubbie to remove whats left. I then give it a final wipe with glass cleaner. Works great!

I like this idea. :thumbsup2 I'm going to look for those next time I go shopping. I love my stove, but hate cleaning the top. When I first got it my DMIL used a sos pad to clean one of the burners and scratched it all up. That burner never looks that clean now.

The next stove I buy will have a black cooktop. The white looks nice when it's clean, but what a pain in the neck to have to clean it every time I boil water.:headache:

Now that I think about it the razor makes perfect sense. It's glass right, and that's what you would use to scrape paint off glass.

I use Weiman stovetop cleaner and a sponge. It only takes a little bit of the cleaner and it comes right off--the bottle lasts me forever. They also sell a wipe that is good for grease spots.

I find the white flat stovetop so much easier to clean than a conventional stovetop.

Ceramabrite is made for these cooktops and the ""kit version comes with a razor. Takes two seconds to clean the cooktop.

A green Scotch Brite pad is the best! I just use that and some Windex.

Thanks for all the replies. I think I've decided to just not cook. Besides, when I posted this I hadn't even attempted to use the oven. It has two different choices, bake or roast, then the stupid thing beeps, beeps and beeps at you. Oh yeah, the oven light turns on by itself too. Can't figure it out. I stuck my turkey breast in yesterday, thought I turned it on and about an hour later the oven was off. Damm computers:rotfl2:
