I am a member and want my Mom to buy a membership. If I put my name on her membership with hers, can I use the points in my contract and the points in her contract to make a reservation? In other words, I own 160 points with my wife, and I will own 160 points with my mom. The question is can I call and make a reservation with 320 points. I am looking at it as having a "combined" large membership as opposed to two small individual memberships. What do you all think?

If I understand your question, the answer is no. It will not function as one contract just because some of the owners are the same. You could reserve some days with one contract and some with another but they are legally two separate contracts at that point just like it was owned by a stranger.

You can transfer once per year from one to the other making it, effectively, like one contract. A little extra work though.

No. You transfer points from one account, to the other. Or you can make reservations with one account and the other account, and have member services "link" the reservations to make one.

We just did this same thing, we are planning on transferring points if needed but the benefit is your Mom will have DVC rights like money off AP discounts on dinning, tours etc. If you were to add on just in your name she would not get any member perks even if staying with you, since she is an adult. I don't think she would even legally be allowed to pool hop.
