How to bring a dslr camera to the parks?

We are going to Disney World for the first time in September. I really want to bring my camera, especially in the parks. I'm just not sure what to do with it for the rides though. I also have two children with me that I will have to keep up with. Any suggestions?

I stuff it in a back pack padded with a sweat shirt. Using a back pack allows me to keep both of my hands free to deal with the kids. When on rides, I just strap the backpack around my knees, or wedge it in place with a leg. It's never been a problem.

I have this backpack for my camera and love it! http://www.amazon.com/Case-Logic-TBC-307-Camera-Backpack/dp/B001T0HYJA/ref=sr_1_15?ie=UTF8&qid=1396121931&sr=8-15&keywords=slr+backpack

I love that the camera goes in the top so it's super easy to pull out quickly to use it. Also there is enough storage in the big pouch and zippers for 2 extra lenses, external flash, my phone, wallet, water bottles package of baby wipes, and change of clothes for my toddler (we just finished potty training and I don't want to carry a diaper bag anymore, but am still scared of accidents)

It's comfy to wear and I just hook one strap through my leg when I'm on rides.

We have a special bag for our camera. It holds our camera, charger, extra lens, etc. It can be slung over your shoulder, or it's meant to be strapped to your body diagonally. Strap is on your front & camera part is on your back. When you're ready to take a photo , you shift it to your front & you just pull the camera out. No fumbling with unsnapping the bag either. It's awesome!!! It was around $60 at our local camera store (I'm sure they're online too). It's been worth every penny. I'm not at home right now. I'll check on the brand when I get home because I know I didn't explain it well.

I have a case logic sleeve for my dslr and I put that into a bookbag with extra lenses and my other stuff. And take it in all rides. Never had a problem with it.

That's good to know. I wasn't sure if I would be able to bring it on the rides.

I like that bag. We're in about the same place with potty training also.

I never recommend bringing an expensive DSLR into the parks. They can be a real pain to carry around. But if you must, I have 3 words for you...

BLACK RAPID STRAP!!!!!!!!

Just be careful, as you will be "wider" with the camera on. How much depends on the size of your lens.

I totally agree with the Black Rapid strap. It allows you to have it out all the time but distributes the weight so well you hardly know it's there.

I keep my camera out on nearly every ride. On the few rides where I put it away (RnR, Space, and Kali if you ride it) just put it in your backpack and keep one foot through the strap.

Disney is one of my favorite places to take my camera for a spin!

I know it's more effort to bring into the park and I may not bring it everyday. I just don't get to use it as often as I like and this would be a good opportunity. I'm checking it out now, thanks.

I have the Timbuk2 Sneak Holster that fits inside my park bag. It helps give some padding when we're on rides, and I can keep a spare battery and memory cards in it. It also has a shoulder strap to make it a carry-alone bag.

I have a camera bag backpack as well. I also bring a plastic bag to put my camera in for wet rides and in case it rains.

I actually have a bag that looks very similar.

My biggest problem was I didn't know whether it could be taken on rides or not. Y'all have answered that question. Now just to decide what to carry it in. Hmm...decisions decisions.

I have a cross body camera strap that I use and I also have a camera backpack. I find that with the cross body I don't need to take off my camera for most rides. Now if the ride offers a place to keep things safe (like on dinosaur) I'll put it in there.

I have a canon camera "sock" it's a neoprene soft slip on type cover that Velcro's for easy on and off. I carry with a cross body strap and when we go on rides I just slip on the soft case and put it in my backpack. Like others, I too slip the backpack around my knee and rest it on my foot to keep it stable and off the floor of the ride ( esp the wet rides)

Happy snapping! :)

I have a Lowe Pro Sling bag. It is the size of a small back pack. It holds my camera and an extra lens. There is a pocket on the the outside that holds room key, and a few odds and ends. With Magic bands, we carry a lot less. I go every where with my camera. It has a rain cover if needed. I have never taken it on a water ride. I just put it in a locker or live it in the hotel that part of the day. I took thousands of pictures my last trip...

My wife uses as crumbler 2-3 million dollar house. I forget which one. I use a domke saddle bag big enough for my body, lens, flash, and my joe demb saucer. It's all I need.

I never leave without my black rapid strap like others have said. The best!

Finally insurance. I say this cause crap does still happen. I have a thread about this last summer. Rushed through security. My domke dropped and I did 1600 worth of damage to my canon 7d and my 28-70 2.8 II canon lens. Thank god for the insurance. Everything was covered and 50 dollar deductible later it was all fixed. Best money I spend each year. I never have to worry while in the parks. Not that I'm not careful bit like I said stuff happens.

Another vote for Lowepro here. I use this one: http://store.lowepro.com/sling-bags/passport-sling-ii

I took it on my last trip in October and it fit into nearly every pouch under the seat or in front of me. Most rides I just never took it off and kept it slung across my body. I had trouble getting it into the Dinosaur and EE pouches, but on subsequent rides I found that it fit securely between my knees and/or ankles.

There are so many great features with this bag but my favorites are the ability to easily carry a tall (12") water bottle securely in the zip-out pouch and all the padding around my DSLR. When I bought this bag I paid $80 for it, so it's come down some in price. But I'd spend $80 again for it in a heartbeat.

IMO, Lowepro has some of the BEST camera bags out there.
