Hi all

I'm looking for some Logan experts. We're driving down from NH Wed.

Unfortunately our flight leaves at 7pm which means we either have to drive in extra early to avoid rush hour traffic or find some alternate routes.

Any suggestions?

Sorry, you're stuck with either driving in early (no later than 3:00) or living with rush-hour traffic. If its any consolation, you'll be going against the major flow of traffic. Be sure to allow enough time to get there in any event.

We always take a limo. Let them deal with the traffic. They also know alternate routes.

Or......you could drive as far as the Woburn Logan Express, leave your car there, and take the bus. Parking is cheaper out there as well.

Here's the link to the Logan Express:

We generally either take Logan Express or a Car Service, but we're on the South Shore.

Cancel your flight and fly from Manchester.

93 or 95?

Just for example - Friday (I know - different from Wednesday and during a school vacation week, instead of being the day before the three-day weekend) traffic heading IN to Boston on 93 was backed up at least six miles. Meanwhile, traffic heading north was unusally... no, AMAZINGLY light.

Now, if you're taking 93, you could get off at Route 16 East and drive through Medford and Everett, into Revere, and - here's where it gets dicey - take a right onto the Lee Burbank Highway, I THINK - which should take you to Route 60 and eventually Logan.

Here's a "cheat". No matter which way you're coming, check www.flylogan.com for the "Getting to and from the airport" link. Find the Logan Express departure times for whichever one is on your way - either Woburn or Peabody. Be there just before the bus departs. Follow the bus.

Are you close to Portsmouth? If so, you could take C&J Trailways, free parking at their bus terminal and tickets are $39 r/t, kids ride free. We've done this several times ourselves.

Go early. You'll have peace of mind knowing you won't miss your flight. Bring things to keep you busy and RELAX!! Something you won't do if you get stuck in traffic!

I highly reccomend this option. We have also used them several times from Newburyport. How can you beat free parking and free rides for kids under 18 with adult. Drivers a very nice and we have always been on time. Good luck and have fun whatever you decide.

Thanks for all your advice. I love Manchester Airport and fly there any chance I get but until Jetblue comes our way I'm stuck with Logan.

We just stayed at the Hampton Inn in Revere and it was still busy on that route as well but may give that a try.

As for Portsmouth, I'm coming from the southwestern corner of NH so it is out of the way for us but sounds like a great option.

I think this time we might park at Preflight and take their shuttle to the airport. Wish me luck!

I drive into Boston every night for work - my report time is 6 PM. This past Thursday is the first time there has been any traffic since last summer. I heard it on 1030 am, so I went over through the airport to Boston. Took me about 5 extra minutes.

You are going to be traveling against the traffic. Listen to 1030 am. Traffic every 10 minutes on the 3's. LOL If no traffic come straight down 93, get into the carpool lane, it very rarely backs up. If you hear 93 is backed up, jump onto 95 to route 1, and follow route 1A to the airport.

we leave tuesday night my flight leaves around 845pm
the car service is picking us up at 6pm
45 min to the airport I dont think there will be alot of traffic going into the city

Drive in early...The stress with worrying about the Boston traffic is no way to start the vacation. As a veteran of the Boston highways I can give you plenty of examples of when "going against traffic" didn't matter. As with many highways, sometimes there seems to be no logic as to why some roads are backed up and Boston roads certainly fall into that category.

When ever I fly out of Logan at peak rush hour times I always go early...keeps my blood pressure low.

Suggestions for passing the time: Find a nice spot for a snack...Logan has been remodeled and there are some nice restarants now. Take a stroll through the airport, read, have a couple of cocktails...If you enjoy watching planes take off and land and the weather is nice go to the top level of the Central Garage. It has a great view of most of the runways and you can see lots of planes coming in and taking off.

<<Route 60, maybe? I don't think 1 and 1A intersect anywhere near Revere>>

Sorry - Yes, route 60 brings you to 1A.

We have used Concord Trailways. We leave our car in Concord. We are in the Lakes Region so I don't know if you have the same option. Busses leave Concord often.
