How to actually purchase a dvc or timeshare??

If you do the DVC tour it will be explained to you. If your not going to be at WDW, call DVC (look at the DVC web site for info). A Guide (sales person) will be assigned to you and she/he will walk you through the process.

You are basically purchasing a real estate interest represented by a number of points. There is a contract that gets signed and if you aren't paying cash, loan info as well.

You can also buy resale which I think is what many people do depending on the resort that they want to have as their home. I used the Timeshare Store.

I would recommend walking through the program with a DVC guide. My experinece with DVC, in person and over the phone, is very relaxed. No high pressure sales. They will explain the ins/outs of the contract, how points work, help you determine how many points you may need, help you pick the best use year for your travel plans, tell you about incentives, etc. The biggest issue...deciding which resort you'd like to purchase and how many points. That would be a big driver of whether you purchase resale or direct through Disney. If you go through Dis, you have to buy a minimum of 160 points. You can purchase any amount through resale. Also, some resorts are much less expensive through resale, where others aren't by the time you add in closing costs.

You can go to www.disneyvacationclub.com and read more. You can also take virtual tours of the different DVC properties (6 at WDW, 1 at Vero Beach and 1 at Hilton Head). Two new resorts have recently been announced (California and Hawaii) and many people are anticipating the possible announcement of a new DVC resort by the Contemporary (called CRV or KTV on these boards). Even if it's announced, sales won't begin until late this year or into 2009.

Best of luck with your research and future decisions!!! :thumbsup2 By the way, welcome to the Disboards!!! party:
