I know this is going to sound like a silly question, but how do you access Edge? I know it's on deck 13 in the forward funnel of the Dream/Fantasy, but in looking at the deck plan, it looks like there's one elevator and stair access. Do you get to it from deck 12 then? Do you go to the forward elevators on Deck 12 and wait for that one elevator that goes up to 13? I'm guessing that you go to 12 and there are stairs that goes up to Edge as well? Is there any other way to get to Edge/13 from the other decks, or do you have to go to 12 first, then find your way to Edge from there?

Also, for those with 10 yr olds that went to Edge, do you check on availability the first night, or wait till it dies down a bit, perhaps the next night before checking it out?

Gosh, I don't want to give misinformation, so I'll let someone clarify about how to get there, in case my memory is faulty. From what I remember from a couple of years ago when we sailed, the entrance to Edge is either via only one of the midship elevators that goes all the way to deck 13 (the other ones only go to 12) or just take the midship or forward elevators to 12 and take one flight of stairs up to Edge. We usually went the stairs route when we dropped by to get our son for dinner, or to give him a message. From the forward elevators, you need to walk outside on the deck back towards midship to get to the entrance and stairs.

As far as availability, all eligible kids were listed on a checklist. When we visited, they took a highlighter and marked our son off on the list and gave him a sticker for his Key to the World Card. Since the kids may trickle in throughout the cruise, I can only guess that they will know how many 11-14 year olds are on the ship, and can give you a good idea right away about whether there would be room for a 10-year old.

Maybe the poster who is currently a youth counselor can chime in with under which circumstances they will allow a 10-year old to access Edge.

They will let you know the first day. You will need to sign a waiver. You may get a CM that suggests he try the lab first. If you have cruised before and he doesn't like the lab just tell them that.

My daughter was 11 on our first cruise and they recommended that the kids go to the club the first night as that is when they all get to know each other. The way we always got to the club was to go into the forward funnel entrance on deck 12 between the kids pool area and the adult pool (I know pools are on 11, but I hope you know what I mean). Then instead of waiting for the elevator we would just walk right up the steps. Our room was on deck 12, though, so that's why we never used the elevator. Hope she enjoys herself!

First of all, even though it's in the forward funnel, it is served by the "Mid" elevators and stairs. You can take the Mid stairs from any deck (starting at 2 if you like). As you get near the top, they change configuration a bit, but it's not hard to figure out. As you saw on the deck maps, only 1 of the Mid elevators goes up to 13. And, only 4 of the 6 go up to 12. Rather than wait for the one special one that goes to 13, the thing to do is to get into the next Up elevator from whatever floor you're on and then go as high as you can, which could be 11, 12, or lucky 13, depending on which one you happen to get. Then, once there, if not on 13 already, you exit that car and press the Up button in the elevator lobby, and it will summon one of the cars that actually does go higher. Repeat a second time if necessary. Or, you can get off at 11 or 12 and take the stairs from there.
