If you are interested in knowing how the Wonder/Magic or any ship line is doing as far as how clean their water supply is, food preparation and storage procedures, etc. Then check out www.cdc.gov/nceh/vsp/default.htm. They have all of the inspection reports at this site. I checked it out and hate to say it, but the Wonder & Magic have yet to receive a perfect score.

Also, if you want to know how the Wonder & Magic compare in safety and violations then check out http://psix.uscg.mil. When you get there, click on vessel search and enter the name of the ship.

I found these sites interesting and good to know information. With so many children running around the ships, it makes you more aware to wash your hands frequently.

There have only been 7 reports that scored a 100 so far in 2005. I reviewed the actual reports for the Magic & didn't see anything that made me upset. This is just like the health department inspections. There are so many 1 point deductions that can keep someone from getting a perfect score. One of the things noted in the details was that some of the kid's plates had knife scratches in them, too much sealant on the inside of the cooler in Palo, and a better drain system for the carbinated drink machines. Since the first two reports in 1988 The Magic has scored in the 90s & twice recieved a 99.

I'm not a hypochondriac (or so I proclaim) b/c most types of illness (or the fear of them) don't freak me out. However, I DO have as much a phobia about stomach viruses as I do bugs :earseek: For instance, I love my neices and nephews, but lemme tell you...little kids are like little walking CDC nightmares. Just about everytime I get to visit them, DH or I catch something :rolleyes1 (As my sister, the teacher, says, "there is no one more sick, more often then a first year elementary teacher." ;) ) Sooooo....have to admit I had a level of nervousness about sailing on a cruiseships...in January...with a trillion little ones running around.

Honestly, reading those reports actually make me feel better about sailing. No reports of Noro on DCL since 2002 (and the one other report was for Salmonella, and that was in 2000). With all those people, and all that food, that's pretty darn impressive.

I'm perfectly happy with their kitchen scores as well. Since my last trip to Disney was cut in half b/c of bad food consumed just before arriving, I'm glad to read this kind of thing ;)

Yep, I was amazed also. With so many children on board, I think they did a good job. I know that I stressed to my children, when we were on board that now was the time for them to listen to me about the seriousness of hand washing and not pretend like they do at home. :goodvibes Still not sure if they did, b/c DS never had dinner with us. He was too busy playing basketball and doing other things!

I can only imagine the person who gets chewed out over a point deduction as I am sure that DCL strives for a perfect score.

Thanks for the link! VERY interesting stuff!

Well, the Magic scored a 94 and the Wonder a 97. Not too bad!

When we cruised this past May, the Magic had antibacterial wipes all over the place. Primarily, entering the restaurants and buffet. HOWEVER.....the wipes are what they state "antibacterial" (not antiviral). So many "bugs" are viral in nature. I was pleased to see them giving them out (actually, they just about MAKE you take one :teeth: ) 3 out of 4 of my kids came home with a nasty respiratory bug. Others we cruised with caught the same or a stomach bug. It's really no different than being in a mall etc., and I think Disney does live up to their high standards. I did hear, if you report a stomach virus they do quarantine you for 48 hrs or so. I think the ship overall was extremely clean :goodvibes I am a nurse, and notice EVERY little detail. Their standards are much higher than so many people that walk out of a bathroom and never wash their
hands.....ACCKKKK!

We just got off the Magic last week. During our Galley tour we were told that the most recent inspection was two weeks ago (right after they got to CA). The ship scored 95. There was a 4 point deduction for food items on the ground around Pluto's and a 1 point deduction for standing water around a food area (Plutos and the Mickey Pool). All the points deducted are related to kids getting out of the pool (wet), getting a hot dog and doing fixin's (mess). There were no other point deductions according to the Chef that did our galley tour.

While we were at the Mickey Pool, the CM's were very diligent about stopping anyone from eating or drinking anything inside the pool ring area. And at every restaurant there was a CM handing out antibacterial wipes EVERYONE (even babies) was expected to take one and use it before entering the restaurant.

Also, as you reboard the ship at the ports there was a station set up with a Purell type dispenser. Disney takes germs very seriously. Even with all of this however, as a previous poster noted, my youngest DD did get a respitory virus at the end of our trip (runny nose, low fever, cough). We were not quaranined, but we did keep her out of the kids activities, as requested. Otherwise, we were allowed to use the rest of the ship. Still spent a lot of time in our stateroom on Friday anyway since she felt pretty lousy.
