How strong is a Painkiller (drink) ?

I don’t drink at ALL - just occasionally champagne. I didn’t think I was even going to try one until read what it was - pineapple juice, orange juice and cream of coconut? Yum!!!!

I usually get my piña coladas virgin, but I’ve tried it with rum - not bad; I think I could handle rum to a degree.

So, I don’t have much tolerance for alcohol - would Soggy Dollar sell me a virgin Painkiller or is the rum minimal?

Thanks!

A true Painkiller is 6oz of Pineapple/OJ/Coconut cream to 2.5oz of Navy Rum (Pusser's) while a Pina Colada only has 1 2/3 oz of a light rum along with 2 2/3oz Pineapple and Cream of Coconut. Based on the recipes I have both report about 8% alcohol in either drink.

The Navy Rum tends to have stronger flavor compared even a Dark Rum and way more then a light rum, so you may not like that. You can ask if they will make with another Rum, but since Soggy Dollar and Pusser's has sued over the name Painkiller my guess is you'll find it with a different name - most all places can make a virgin version.

When I read the topic headliner, I had NO idea you were referencing a drink! 😂🤣 I was like….😐. Then I opened and read it and I was relieved. 😂😂

On our honeymoon in 1993, we were in the USVI, St John. We had painkillers mixed to order based upon our response to "what level is your pain?" That determined how much rum went in the drinks 😂.

Painkillers are very tasty though!

Thanks! You’re right - I probably wouldn’t like a Navy Rum. I’ll ask - unless they pre-make their Painkiller, which I doubt, a virgin version shouldn’t be an issue. I’m already addicted to it and I haven’t tried it 😂

I‘m already addicted to it - that’s so much of what I love in this world !🥥🥥🍊🍊🍊🍍🍍🍍

I can confirm they do not pre-make their painkillers. I was there last week and had several 😂 highly recommend trying at least one the way they come though.

As strong as you want it to be in most bars I've been to..! My local tiki bar is on a scale of 1-4 and that drink can be made as a 2, 3, or 4. My only word of caution when it comes to tiki is some drinks just aren't good without the rum... thus we keep a bottle of N/A rum in our cabinet for me. Making it weak may be better than skipping it altogether if you can! :)

Yeah, I didn’t think so...yay, good news for me! We’ll see about trying the original...I won’t rule it out!

I hope you had a great time !

I can see that....I‘ll make a note to ask them about it; if they can make it mild, and the rum really does enhance the other juices, I’m not opposed to trying the original. I’ll have to drink multiple Painkillers to decide which is better...what a problem to have!

Pusser's Navy Rum has a unique taste it works in this drink, but I prefer use a Dark Rum like Coruba or Myers Dark rum as it doesn't have the "bite" - any decent cocktail like this should be made one at a time, though many will premix the Pineapple/OJ/Coconut then just add the rum and shake.

I don’t think I’d trust anyone who premade the juice/coconut mix …

Painkillers are very tasty. On one of our eastern cruise visits, my new 21 year old ordered one and found it quite strong. I had my own. I just took one for the team and drank them both :P

We went to Pussers bar in Tortola and when I ordered one the bartender said 2, 3 or 4. I was like what? did you want 2, 3 or 4 oz of rum! We went with 3. DH said it wasn't strong. Me, I felt NO pain LOL 🥴

It won’t take much rum to make me think it’s too strong, lol…I really don’t want to find out what I’d be like if I had too much 😂😂

2 will be my maximum 😂😂😂….I’m not even sure it will be my minimum 😂😂😂

Made me think of the Captain Mai Tai…there were a lot of shots in one we had on Disney Fantasy. Our rum tasting ended with one, and we left the kids in the club so I could take a nap…
