To all you guys out there who have had one, how strong are these Lapu Lapu's? I recently saw a pic of one and man my mouth instantly began to water, they look delicious.

I don't find them overly strong at all, but then I prefer mixed drinks, so am used to "hard" liquor. If you aren't much of a drinker, or usually only drink beer you may want to stop at one Lapu Lapu. :goodvibes

I think pretty much anyone can handle one. ;) On the other hand, I prefer several.

They don't taste strong either, they taste mostly like pineapple juice. There's a whole lot of juice in there! If it tastes strong to you, just stir it.

They are strong, I had one last Oct at Kona and I didnt like it...the reviews I have read was that it was sweet...this one was strong and I could not taste anything sweet about it.

I wouldn't say they're incredibly strong; unless the 151 sits on top and you catch a swig of that...

Stronger than alot of drinks around Disney (but about $12 or $13)

I do get one everytime I go. I love drinking out of a pineapple. My girlfriend and I were holding lapu lapu's in May on the Polynesian beach when I asked her to marry me! I guess you can say lapu lapu's will always have a place in our hearts. lol

I am NOT a big drinker at all (candy drinks make me happy), but the only time I've had one of these I certainly did not dance on the tables or pinch Stitch's tooshie or anything like that, which leads me to believe it wasn't that strong. (Wait - not that I am PRONE to pinching Stitch's tooshie... hm, I think I'll just stop now.)

I am going to try again next trip, just to make sure. It's the least I can do for everyone here at the DIS. :goodvibes

I had the same experience! I could not wait to try it because everyone says how yummy they are. :scared: Thank goodness my husband will drink anything! lol He slurped it down, although he did comment that it was very strong too.

They are rather strong. I am a small person and I can safely drink two over the course of waiting to be seated and eating dinner. That said, they are expensive. I think for us it is mainly the novelty of drinking out of a pineapple. There are certainly better tasting drinks available.

here's a good tip:
if you like the taste but not the cost, just order a mai tai. Same drink but not in a pineapple. Also, after you drink the first one in a pineapple, just keep your pineapple and order a mai tai and then pour it into your pineapple to keep the "fun" going....lol. Saves about 3-4 bucks a drink, IIRC.

As to strength, I assume like all drinks, even though they are using a recipe individual bartenders may make it less or more strong. If on first sip it's too strong for your taste, simply ask the bartender to add more juice to it. They will be happy to accommodate you. :)

DH & I mainly drink adult beverages only on vacation, so we're not regular drinkers. We both really liked the Lapu Lapu - DH more than me. He slurped his right down, but I had problems finishing mine. It was a bit stronger, I think, than other drinks I'd tried earlier in the week. But it wasn't so strong that I was weaving among the tables doing the hula or anything. I think part of my problems was that I was just so full - Ohana is a LOT of food - I couldn't imagine another bite or drink of anything! However, I persevered and finished my Lapu Lapu!

I like fruity/candy mixed drinks and was really excited about trying one ... unfortunately, I was very disappointed ... WAY to strong for my liking ... I had to ask for extra pineapple juice to cut the alcohol flavour ... and even that didn't really help. My dad's "hard liquor" of choice is rum and even he found the drink overpowering! Between the five adults at our table, we barely managed to finish the drink - no one liked it. I would save the $$$ and try a regular tropical drink instead.

I love the Lapu Lapu but will never drink another one. :sad2:
My husband and I went in January and we went to the bar prior to the fireworks starting and I drank 7 of them :confused3 I have never, in my life been drunk like that, but in my defense I had just gone through a 2nd failed IVF cycle the week prior. I am not a big drinker at all, I drink beer only and to this day I have no desire to drink, it ruined me for all alcohol. :)
I will say, prior to this, I found them very good and only had 1 or 2. I don't like mixed drinks or sweet drinks and I don't think they are sweet. Our bar bill was over $100 though just for the 7 lapu lapu's and my husband had 2 beers.
Seeing that picture of one in the pp made my stomach turn though!! :scared:

I can't even drive after 1 margarita LOL I wouldn't be able to move after 7 Lapu Lapu's!

Ha! I barely could move. We went right back to the room, I don't remember a thing from that night except it was the first time in my 32 years I experienced a room spinning!!!! :)

:rotfl: :rotfl: Thanks guys. I really appreciate your insight on these Lapu Lapu's. I do love pineapple hopefully I don't make myself sick by drinking too much. Heck could make the Disney Magic that more magical!!!!!!!! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl2:

That is a super smart idea! The price was the only thing that ever truly stopped me from buying that first sweet satisfying Lapu Lapu. You have now given me my loophole, and for that I thank you.
