How strict are they with serving minors drinks at Pleasure Island

and please let the answer be BEYOND STRICT.

Here is the possible situation. My son, who will be 18 next June, may be in Disney at that time with two or three friends (all 18 and slightly over but all under 21 years of age) and asked me if they can go to Pleasure Island one evening.

Now, I truly don't distrust them and am 99% sure they would not drink, but I'd just like that 1% assurance that Disney does card minors.

They are VERY strict. You have to show them your id and get a wristband to be allowed to drink. No wristband, no drinking. Believe me, they are well aware how bad one drunken underage person getting caught would be for them. Disney is not about to risk that exposure.

Thank you so much. You know we've gone to Disney about 30 times in the past 10 years but have never once gone into Pleasure Island as my kids were small an we had no interest. Too busy riding the rides. Now that my kids are getting older and said they'd like to at least see it, I'm glad to hear Disney will be safe.

I'll tell him to feel free to spend his evening out there, heck I'll even spring for the soda LOL

Went to PI a few years ago when I was 18 and they were very strict with the alcohol wrist bands :)

Word of advice... They look at IDs but not that closely... (aka fake IDs would be easily passed)... not trying to get flammed but a friend of mine has done this with his fake id... I know. BAD IDEA... i told him he was an idiot risking an entire vacation just to get a beer

i was in disney in january, and my whole family went to the comedy club in pleasure island...they looked at my ID and gave me a wristband,,i was born in 84, so i guess they just didnt look at the month i was born,,,i didnt end up drinking, but i had the wristband..

We were at PI 2 nights last week(Weds and Fri). The first club both night's was the Adventurers Club. They checked both mine and my sister's IDs then we got stamps. Hers was on the underside of her arm for being over 18 but under 21 and mine was on top and I got a wristband as I'm over 21. I imagine anyone truly bent on being served by having a fake ID and such could get served but Disney will only sell one drink at a time per wristband too. I also watched a bartender re-check someone's ID after they had been through the initial check in when they ordered. We really enjoyed the Adventurer's Club and the Comedy Club and plan to take our mom and grandma on one of the family trips. I liked the live band at Rock and Roll Beach Club, my sister thought Motions was more her scene.

Well I'm sure if anyone wants too they really could get a drink, but the bottom line is these boys will be with my family on vacation and if they even think about it, they'll wish they were home with their own parents and not with us LOL.

I'm sure it'll be fine, just needed to know that Disney does check and trust me these boys look no where near 21.

I have always seen them checking everyone, but I guess a fake id could fool someone. :confused3 If your son does not have one, then I don't think there is much of a chance he would get served. Disney seems a lot tougher than any other " clubs".

Will you be staying on property? If so at least if something did go wrong and they were served, it would be nice to know that no one would be driving.

No we will be on property. I own at the Disney Vacation Club and we are thinking (about 70% sure at this point) of allowing my son to bring up to 3 friends as his High School Graduation present. We'll get a Grand Villa for the nights in question. We'll cover the cost of the room and food, it'll be the boys responsibility for them to pay for air and tickets. These boys are pretty responsible and expressed the desire to want to go last year but couldn't afford it on their total own, plus no way would I let my son go at that point, he wasn't old enough. By doing it this way it makes it affordable to them and allows me to chaparone without being in their face every minute.

We will use magic express and only rent a car for one day so my DH and I can go food shopping to stock the fridge for them. I am planning on cooking most meals inside for them to have whenever they are hungry. Which I assume will be often :rotfl: Taco's, chichen, sandwiches, pasta, kind of easy to cook but filling food.

Both OKW and SSR are very convenient to DTD(and the other parks) we have found. We used Wegoshop to have our groceries delivered to OKW in June and will use them again in Dec(even if the waitlist for BWV comes through). Good luck and have a great trip.

The last time I went, they were asking everyone for ID before putting the wristbands on, I was 40!

Thanks for the idea about Wegoshop. How do they handle the perisable items?

At a minium I may print out the shopping list and have the boys check off what they usually enjoy eating. I'll use that as my starting point for my grocery list.

Thanks!

When I went with my brother they were checking them very thoroughly. They had pulled one girl out of line and had the nearest officer at the gate take her aside to talk to her because they suspected her id. was fake.

I have to say that Disney is strict about checking id's, however they are not very good at it. Both in 2003 & 2004 when I went with Dbf (I was 19 & 20 during those years and dbf was 21 & 22) we went to pleasure island 2 nights out of each of the vacations. They checked our Id's and I was given the same stamp/wristband as dbf who was old enough to drink at the time. I thought maybe they just gave a wristband to show they checked your id, but nope if I had wanted to get a drink I sure could have (and I look like I'm about 15!!!) So if anyone has a fake ID they can certainly get a drink I'm sure of it, they don't look at them too close.

Wegoshop takes your list to the grocery store shortly before your requested delivery time, shops, puts the perishable stuff in the cooler, and then brings it right to your villa. You call them with your villa info after you check in. They were on time, got what we requested, and were very pleasant. If you post about them on the DVC boards, you'll get many other experiences.

Thanks, I think I'll do a search first. No since asking the same questions twice that have already been answered 3 times LOL

He will be carded. As long as he doesn't have a fake ID, then I wouldn't worry about him drinking.

If he does have a fake ID, most of the door hosts at Pleasure Island are pretty good at catching fake ID's. Like anywhere, nobody is perfect, but I've seen my fair share of people escorted off Disney property by the police. If caught underage drinking, they don't mess around.

my answer would be relatively strict...
but i think my kids got through because they were with us...
the truth is, my kids don't drink alcohol, but it was just the principle of not having to wear the hated wristbands (identifying you as under 21)...

in any case, the drinking age in the country where we live is 18 and both of them are over that, so it's sort of silly....but as i said, they don't drink anyway..

but what happened was as follows:
my daughter will be 21 in October....but she has a backwards date on her drivers license (since we don't live in america the date shows the day first, then the month)...so due to the reverse order, it looked as though she was 21 to any american who doesn't know that everywhere else in the world, dates are reversed....

that was in the case of my 20 year old, almost 21 year old daughter.....when they carded her, her drivers license looked as if she's 21 years old and that's what they believed.....perhaps if they read this post, they'll know better in the future....doesn't matter, since the next time she's there, she'll actually be 21.....

as for my 18 year old son, he looks about 30 (he's very very very tall, with a very heavy beard)....they didn't ask him for an ID......that was the funniest thing of all.....and drove my daughter crazy...
not only did they not ask for an ID, they didn't even ask him how old he is and he's only 18....they just stamped his hand and went on to the next person.......

the main thing that it was useful for was to get them into mannequins (and jelly rolls on the boardwalk)....in the end, mannequins was boring....
in fact, all of the music clubs in pleasure island were boring....no one at all was dancing.....my kids are only interested in dancing, not sitting around boozing and listening to music....that's not what it's like at dance clubs at home....they were very disappointed that no one was dancing and so we left (we first went into every single club to check it out)..
it's possible that much later at night people do dance, but at about 11 when we were there, no one was dancing....

but anyway, to answer your question, they're relatively strict, but there are loopholes.....

That's odd, because there are quite a few people from around the world whose licenses would presumably look the same way, and I'm sure many of them go to PI. You would think the PI license checker folks would be told about or would have learned this. Maybe the person checking your licenses was new.
