How spread out are Poly and GF?

I've visited both the Poly and GF before, but never stayed. Both resorts promote themselves as "monorail resorts," but to me, both resorts seem rather spread out, and thus, the appeal of the monorail diminishes when one returns from the park at the end of a long day (with kids) and you get off the monorail at GS, then have to take the elevator to the ground floor, walk out the building and across the grounds to your own building.

So I'm wondering -- for those of you who have stayed at GF and Poly -- how bad were those walks to and from the monorail / mail building with tired young children in tow? I'm trying to decide whether to just go ahead and booke GF concierge-level in the main building, and whether the convenience is really worth the extra (big) bucks.

Thanks!
Linda

I have stayed at both resorts and estimate that the walk from the Monorail to the furtherest building on the resort grounds is no more than five or six minutes. Four minutes is probably the average unless the guest walks slowly or has to carry heavy loads.

The walk is nothing. Just a few minutes tops to any building in the Poly. Haven't stayed at GF but have walked around it and I would say it is about the same.

I've stayed at the Poly with one kid and four kids (not all mine) in tow and it's never seemed spread out at all to me or to them. The longest walk we had was to the TTC and that took about five minutes tops. :thumbsup2

We stayed in the Boca Chica building at the GF in January -- 6 adults and 4 children, ages 9, 8, 6, & 5. Our first trip with children. Before we went, I read many discussions on how spread out the GF is. This is so untrue. We found the walks to be minimal. You will love the GF, and when we go again, we will request the same building. It was so quiet and beautiful. :cheer2: :flower3: Have a perfectly magical time!!

The Poly has two monorail options: main building (which has no rooms) or the TTC. To go to EPCOT we always just walked to the TTC to avoid going all the way around and then transferring. To go to MK, we got on at the main building. We stayed in between the two options.

I have never stayed at the Poly but we love the GF. It is not anymore spread out than any other deluxe resort except that you are walking outside to your lodge, not down a long hallway (both my BC and AKL rooms have been much farther away than either of my GF rooms).
