for a funeral service? It's been five weeks since my grandpa's service and I've been trying forever to get my mom to do them... I'm doing them myself tonight and hoping people won't think it's been too long. Has it? We have had A LOT to do, including going to TN to pack up his house and finalize the paperwork, and upon our return my grandmother went into the hospital and things were looking bad for her, so maybe they'll understand?

Don't give this a second thought. When my Mom passed, I got them done within two months. My sister (who usually is the etiquette Queen) never had the heart to send the ones she committed to doing.

No one is going to think any less of you or your family. :grouphug:

Don't worry about it too much. I sent mine out about a week after my mom's funeral, and I just got a thank-you note from a friend who's dh passes away 2 weeks ago. I didn't even send cards to everyone who sent me cards, although my mil said I should have. Only to those who sent flowers, made a donation of some kind, brought food or did something out of the ordinary. Take time to get yourself collected...no one is going to think any less of you if you take longer than others.

I think you're fine. :goodvibes I wrote ty notes for my mother when my father died. It was a relief for her. I think it was too difficult for her to deal with at the time.

I've never had to do that type of thank you note before, but I do know that I wouldn't be offended at all if it took a couple of months (or even longer) to get them out. Considering the grief involved and all of the details that have to be handled, I would think that most people would be understanding.

I definitely don't think 5 weeks is too long of a time.

Notes for gifts would be different of course. I used to tell DD that she couldn't cash the check, spend the cash, play with the toy, etc. until the note had been sent.
