How soon is to soon to plan...

a trip to disney?
we went in feb 2000
and again in march 2002

DH wants to go in 2004
i want to go for the christmas decorations
and experience Disney in a new way

is it to soon to make plans
when do resorts start taking reservations

any suggestionswould be helpful

also i am thinking the 1st week of Dec 2004
good ? bad? any ideas?

It's never too early! The minute I start thinking about our next WDW vacation, I'm here on the DIS looking for new and interesting opportunities. We're going in 2004 too. When I first started planning, the beginning of this past summer, we decided on the first week in Sept. But, decided on May instead so we could be there for the Flower and Garden show, which we love!
At 330 days out, I book our flight using FF miles and that firmed our dates. We like to resort hop during our stay, and the only other confirmed thing on our itinerary is three nights at the Dolphin. We book thru Dreams, right here at the DIS site. Happy planning!

We are doing a big family trip Thanksgiving week of 2004. I am already planning things out. Can't make reservations, yet, though until December at the 11 month window through DVC.

We were just chatting with some friends of ours last night who went with us to Central Florida this summer about another trip in the summer of 2007! We are planning one when the father gets done with his PA school as a celebration!

It is never too soon!

I'm always planning, visiting these boards, resorts, restaurants etc. We have already started to make a list of the restaurants that we want to try next time. And a list of the hotels we'd like to try this time too, depending on our budget at the time of course. We had PAP's this time and hope to do that again because once you've had AP's, it is really hard to go back to just PHP. We liked the non-commando way we could tour knowing that we weren't "using a day" if we got up late or came back to the hotel early. It was a great way to see WDW. We don't even know when our next trip will be, probably not before 2005, but we're always talking about it, planning it, and most importantly saving for it! Have fun planning.

Thanks for mentioning frequent flyer miles. I haven't heard this from an official source, but I think that instead of scaling back their frequent flyer programs, some of the financially troubled airlines are cutting back the number of available frequenst flyer seats.

I had enough FF miles on AA for 3 of our tickets to Paris. I booked at the end of July ('03) for our March ('04) trip. When I booked, the reservationist told me that I had booked the last available FF seats ... over 8 months ahead of time! And I could see from AA's web site that the flight was maybe 1/8 booked at best.

So if you're planning to use FF miles, book as early as you can.

Definitely never too early to start planning if you are thinking of a visit during a holiday. If you are thinking about a trip the week of xmas you need to call now for resort reservations. Holidays tend to book up far in advance. CRO takes reservations far beyond 10 years in the future. You also need to keep an eye on the boards regarding advanced PS for CP or just regular PS dinners.
