How soon for fireworks?

Hi everyone. In order to get a good spot, how soon before Wishes and Illuminations does everyone start staking their spot? We're going to WDW for the first time in November and I want to make sure we have a good spot! TIA

We started waiting for Illuminations one hour before so we could sit down on a bench and watch it. Actually I sat and held a spot, and DH and kids explored. Be prepared if you do this however because people get "pushy" when the time gets close. I have also seen it standing up, way in the back of a country whose name I forget and I still thought it was beautiful.
