so much depends on the headcount.

i almost feel like i should send out round one of informal 'invitations' asking if people think they would like to come and THEN closer to the wedding send out the OFFICIAL invites and rsvps

what did you guys do?!

My Wedding is next March. I sent out my own newsletter at at the end listed as add called "Let Us KNow" with our contact info and our parents. In the newsletter I explained that we were looking for a tenative count of people who are interested in going so we can plan some special events. It has worked somewhat, I just sent them about 3 weeks ago. We already have people who let us know they are planning on comming and we are up to about 62 people so far. Our goal it to keep it to around 100-125 people. So we are half way there.

I already did an informal "save the date" and my invites are going out within the next week since I need numbers for the coordinator next month and the guests are already planning shore excursions.

With the special location I don't think there's such a thing as "too early" but who am I for being "proper" :confused3

I did a tenative Save the Date prior to the official save the date from Disney and got a count of 41, now with all the RSVPS in I am at 32 counting us. It was somewhat accurate.

we had people RSVP about a year in advance. this was before we even called up Disney. we wanted to be prepared with numbers in case Disney asked right away for them.

I sent my invitations out in eary April and requested for the RSVP card to be sent back to us by July 20th since we are having an intimate wedding and if people can't come it will give DF the chance to invite his cousin that he really wants to come. I know it is early but it seems that DF's family just can't get their act together until they have something official. They even tried to bribe us to have a wedding here in NM just for them. I put my foot down on that one.

I also did a save the date prior to the Disney one where I asked people to "RSVP" in fun, casual way. I plan on asking for a 60-day RSVP in the official invitation. So, I will send out the invitations about 90-days before and then the RSVP will be due back about 60-days before. This way, I can still change things around in the budget and stuff if I have to.

Great save the dates and invites at the best prices on web at a company called www.capturedmomentsboutique.com. Looking for castle place card holders....Found them...Thanks for all the help!

Editing sites to update website since during earning ears could not post urls....

We sent out newsletters as soon as our date was penciled into Disney's computer. WE didn't officially ask for any feedback, we just wanted people to have a heads up about when and where... however, my mom and dad's phone started ringing off the hook with people who said they were coming... so we have a tentative count of 80. WE were supposed to cap at 60, but there are bunch of people we didn't expect to come, coming... but it will be fun and we are excited to share this time with our families. It's been a long time coming. Our families have been asking us for the past 10 years, when we are getting married... well folks, the save the dates are in your mailboxes... plan away!! :cheer2:

we sent save the dates 1 year in advance of our wedding, we also sent 3 newsletters with wedding & disney info, travel tips, had a knot.com website, etc. this gave our guests plenty of time to know what we were planning, gave them time to decide & save the money to attend. we had a general idea of who would make the trip & based our counts of that. we sent formal invitations with rsvps in mid november with a january 16th rsvp date for our march 21st wedding. that gave us time to follow up with late sayers & our counts with disney. we were pretty accurate to our guestimate though we expected 60 would go & had 52.

I like the idea of sending informal STDs before Disney's informational package arrives. We have been really open with people about we would like to do from the beginning, so I'm hoping that people won't be caught off guard. Thinking of maybe sending a fun postcard-style STD. Also, definitely planning on having a site once our date is set. We have family all over, som outside the US even, so this will be invaluable!

We sent out these magnets...don't mind the crappy scan!

We first sent an email and called our friends and family to see who would be able to make it, so we could give disney an estimate before we held the space. We expanded our list a bit from there to do the save the dates, of course then we got more phoen calls of who couldn't make it. Then we sent out the invitiatons mid april, with a RSVP date of May 1 (our wedding was June 18th). of course my DH's family still hasn't RSVP'd so we had to call them. We held the space for 40 and 35 are actually attending so our number was pretty accurate! I think the bottom line, is the more you communicate the better!

I did an email and asked people to kind of give me an idea...I found our advanced responses to be very off from what we ended up with...maybe it was just my guest list, but there was a huge discrepancy between who said they would come and who actually came. Plus, we had an ongoing problem with getting people to send back responses. Just a caveat as you plan...

We had the same thing, we let everyone know our plans before we booked withDisney to get a tentative idea of who would come , as its a 9 hour flight i didnt expect many people to say yes. At that point all of DF's family said they would go, then nearer the time 8 dropped out. We have now sent out save the dates and many people have actually booked their vacation package now. We plan to send out formal invitations around August and have the R.S.V.P's back around 60 days before the wedding.
