How soon After the movie release did they start to meet in park? Reason I'm asking is we will be there the week or two after Moana is released. Thanks
Ryan

Not sure what "Mona" is, but a week or two after it releases, highly doubt there will be any meet and greets. There's popular Disney movies that have never had a meet and greet, so I would never fully count on a movie having any characters available to meet.

Inside out characters just recently hit the park, so that's close to a year after the movie came out

It was quite sometime.

Moana is Disney's next animated movie, it comes out this November.

Oh ok..OP had "Mona" in there instead of "Moana" and I had no clue lol. Actually just saw the Rock doing some voice acting for it on his Instagram a few minutes ago.

Yea I wouldn't count on any meet and greet anytime this year. I'm sure they'll have merchandise, but if the movie is a huge hit and they do a meet and greet, it wouldn't be until next year

Agree with PP. A&E began their meets before the movie release.

Hiro and Baymax began their meets the day BH6 opened in theaters.

There's always hope that it won't take too long before Moana begins meeting.

When did they start meeting in Epcot? I know it was about 6 months after Frozen came out that they moved to MK to deal with the lines. Didn't know they started before the movie released

It was a few weeks before the movie's release. I know @mesaboy2 and his family met them when they were "unknowns."

It had to have been early November 2013.

Elsa and Anna started meeting BEFORE the movie came out doubt that will happen with Moana
Yep and that is how my sis and myself met them with a 20 min wait and that was mainly cause we were just waiting for the girls to come back from one of their breaks

Do you remember when Lotso started meet and greets before Toy Story 3 came out and nobody knew he was actually a villain? That was kind of funny!

OP, Disney is a bit random with meet and greets tied to new movies. You can't even meet Judy and Nick from Zootopia in WDW and, as others mentioned, Joy and Sadness just started. IMHO, I would just keep an eye out here and on the Disney Parks blog for any news of Moana meet and greets.

We met Anna and Elsa on November 3, 2013 (just checked the time stamp on our picture). The movie was released November 27, 2013.

Even though we knew NOTHING about the movie, I knew my daughter would have wanted to meet them after she saw the movie. So I stood in line while she and DH went on Maelstrom. I'm so glad we did it as I saw the craze after the fact.

I think that tells you that Disney was not as surprised by the popularity of A&E as you'd have thought. I think their test audiences clued them in to how popular they'd be. When was the last time before them they had a character in the parks before a movie came out?

They were actually there a few weeks before it released.... I was there and it was a small great in Epcot not super busy or anything just medium busy. I didn't know much about the movie and skipped it.

:) I had thought Disney brought them out early so people would realize Frozen was a "sisters" movie rather than about a silly snowman. ;) From the trailers and commercials, I thought it would focus on a snowman!

yes, we met them in November before the movie came out too. We didn't have much to talk to them about but it was fun! Lines were very short.

I am wondering of Moana is going to get a tie-in with Lilo & Stitch at Ohana? Or at the very least, there will probably be a Moana presence at the Polynesian somewhere...

We also skipped meeting Anna and Elsa the week before the movie came out because our kids were little (our group had four girls aged 0,1,2 and 3), we didn't know who they were, and the wait was 20 minutes. We thought the line was too long. We regretted that decision. :)
