Ok....I've watched You Tube, visited several Disney boards, racked my brain and still have not come up with a plan to reveal our surprise trip to WDW! We leave in 38 days......Cast: Me (35) DH (40) DD (8) and DS (5). We will be driving from Michigan splitting the trip into two days. We DO NOT want to tell them before departure or on Day 1 of the drive. This will be a first trip for everyone in the family! I'm so excited I'm ready to bust! :yay:

Anybody have any ideas?

a puzzle for the car telling them where your going?

a riddle? List a bunch of movies or things that are "disney" and ask them what all of these things have in common. I'm willing to bet your 8 yr old is pretty sharp and will get it.

we are going in July and have not mentioned ANYTHING to DD(2) about seeing Mickey let alone that her grandparents (my ILs) will be there. We won't "show/tell" her till they meet us a MCO. Iit's going to be the last big family vacation for us before my DH deploys for 4 months.

I would say that you were going on a trip to visit a childhood friend, Cindy, and that it will take two days to get there. The morning of day two you can say, "Did I tell you about Cindy's house? It's a castle!"

Oh......I forgot to mention that our first park day will NOT be at Magic Kingdom. :sad2: We will be starting off the trip at DHS due to what I anticipate to be ridiculous crowds at MK on Easter Sunday! Keep the ideas coming!

I just have to say....brings back memories.

I don't usually surprise them anymore. 3 are late teens and like helping plan.

But, I have to share. When 3 oldest were in preschool we picked them up from preschool & told them we have a surprise. We then told them we were taking them leaf peeking to NH. When we pulled up to our house there was a limo in the driveway (to actually take us to the airport.). DS wouldn't get out of our car! He didn't want to go leaf peeking in a strange car! We finally told him the limo was actually taking us to the airport to go to WDW. ....He still didn't want to get in the limo. He wanted to take our station wagon to disney.
Then finally we get them ALL in the limo, in the airport in Orlando & other DS says....are we really going to disney. He thought we were actually still going leaf peeking! Sorry, I had to share. At the time I was disappointed DS wasn't thrilled with the limo, but today it is one of my favorite memories to share with all his close friends!

This sounds so fun! I have always wanted to surprise my children with a Disney trip but for DH, half of the fun of the trip are the months and weeks leading up to it. He has planning sessions with our kids where they replay Disney memories, talk about what they want to ride first, what they are excited to see, etc. I can't get him to go along with the surprise idea because he'd miss out on half of his fun. :)

Just a suggestion for those that want to suprise but like to have kids help plan. What we did with our kids is have them help with , if we were to go to disney again what would you like to eat, do, etc. We do this about once a month, so when it actually comes time, it's routine for them and they think nothing of it. They have had to pick restaurants, food items, and rides so many times already.

i really believe anticipation and a count down adds to the magic. but...I also think some kids cannot handle that. Not sure what we will do can't wait til August myself!:yay:

Our first trip we drove and we didn't tell the kids. We told them we where going to visit a realetive. Once you get into Orlando you will see signs for Disney and signs with Disney characters on them eveywhere. This is when we broke out the travel games and the DVD player. Once we got to Disney we had to buy tickets ( we did not plan this trip well). We told the kids we where at a flee market and they belived us. On the monorail to the park we told them and they where very happy.
