How secure are the parking lots at the parks?

While at another (non-Disney) theme park last summer, someone broke into and attempted to steal our truck from the parking lot. (Yes, it was locked and the alarm was set.) We found out that six vehicles were actually stolen that same day from that theme park's parking lot.
After a bit more reading, we read about many reports that the particular theme park had very loose security.

How is Disney's parking lot security at its theme parks? Has this been an issue?

I haven’t personally had or heard of any issues but with that being said they are still large, very heavily trafficked parking lots. For $25 anyone has access to them.
I’m sure there are cameras everywhere, and there is security that drives around. I wouldn’t say security is poor or lacking, but I imagine they can’t be everywhere and see everything all of the time either.

I don’t say this to alarm anyone, I say it because it’s very easy to assume that nothing bad ever happens in the Disney bubble and that’s just not the case. I think the best anyone can do is keep cars locked, set an alarm if there is one, keep valuables out of sight, and go on about the day.

I wouldn't bring my car to Disney. I prefer to leave it at home so I don't have to worry about things like this.

They are as safe as any other parking lot. Yes, someone can pay the parking fee and try to steal a car. But, it's nothing I'm particularly concerned with. There are security cameras there, mostly for guest safety. But, it also helps with thefts.
I'm sure my car has a much greater chance of being stolen at our Six Flags than at WDW...not much security there!!!!

About the same as any other public parking lot. Nothing to stress yourself over though. Odds are extremely minute that anything will happen. You just can't worry about every little thing. Some things you just accept in order to go out in the world and live.

Pretty sure cars are stolen from home too.

If I am a car thief, I want something with an easy getaway...not a WDW parking lot. While I'm sure there's someone at some time who tried to steal a car from a WDW parking lot, I feel like the odds are better at a commuter park and ride or something like that.

Yeah, there's likely never a single moment in a lot at WDW when there's not a lot of people around. Privacy is really hard to come by

Yeah.... that's the place I was referring to. Security is very lax.
