How secure are magic bands on the wrist?

I'm thinking about how careless kids can be... Do the magic bands come off/attach on easily? What kind of clasp do they have? I can see myself now waiting in line every day to activate a new magic band for my daughter! Usually I just keep everyone's cards with me unless entering the park... Just wondering...

My experiance with them are theat they stay on prety good. If you have a huge concern then you could just hold on to your child's band and then hand it to them when you enter the park or a ride. You can make the band smaller by removing the color section from the rest. This made it a better fit for my kid's wrist.

Once you snap them on firmly they are very secure. A child could easily pull it off if they wanted to.

We were at WDW for the first 2 weeks of January with a very active 14 year old boy. He had two experiences when his band came off, once in the pool, where his sister luckily saw it and dived down to get it as it did sink to the bottom. The next time was when arriving back at the Boardwalk in our car he rushed out and failed to notice his band got caught and pulled off as he opened the car door. He only noticed it was gone when he got back to the room and tried to open the door. The car had been valet parked so we just went to guest services and they issued a replacement grey band. We opted not to cancel the original band until the following morning when we checked the car and luckily found it inside.

What we weren't prepared for was how devastated he was when he thought he'd lost his lovely yellow personalised band. We spent a whole evening with a very sulky boy who thought he'd been punished by getting a horrible boring grey replacement. You do get very attached to your bands - we loved them. We think it would be better if they were a little less rigid and could mould themselves to your wrist a little more. And maybe Guest Services could just keep a choice of colours for replacements for those fashion conscious kids who lose them.

Adults will be fine - I wore mine for 8 days, including during the half and full marathons without any issues.

Children are careless. They are not secure enough for children, IMO. If my children were younger, I would have a plan to secure them better or hold them for my kids.

Adults CAN lose their MagicBand also!:)

A "friend" of mine lost theirs in DAK.:)

"They" went by GR and it had been turned in so everything turned out good.:)

Last Oct my BIL and SIL joined us on our second day at WDW. Their first day, first ride which was Space Mtn his band came off in the ride. A CM recovered it and he got a replacement at the desk at BoardWalk since one of the fasteners broke off.

My family has worn ours for 10 total days in the parks now, and here is my personal experience:

My wife: Has never had hers fall off

My 5 year old: Has never had hers fall off

My 7 year old: Had hers fall off once when her arm hit something while walking

Me: I've had mine fall off 4 times now, with each of those occurring when putting on a backpack. The strap hits it when I'm putting it on, which pops the MagicBand off.

They aren't prone to falling off, but it can happen. I, somehow, lost mine on the wild, madcap adventure that is Voyage of The Little Mermaid. Thankfully I noticed immediately after leaving the theater and a CM was able to locate it for me.

I ran the Walt Disney World Marathon while wearing it. I did not intend to run the marathon with it. I'd forgotten that I was wearing it.

Outside of the backpack straps (I'm the mule) which does seem to catch the band and pull it off. They stay on well.

4.5yo and my wife had no issues with them coming off.

What happens if you do lose it? Do they replace it with all your info and deactivate the lost one?

You can buy sliders for the bands that will keep it a little more secure.

My kids never had an issue with it.

Me, on the other hand, anytime I put my backpack on, the band came off. Other than that - no issues.

Officially, they will replace it once (with a grey band.) After that you must buy a new one but I've not heard about anyone being asked to buy a replacement yet.

There is no "stuff" on the band to replace. It's just got an ID number which gets associated to your MDE account and Hotel folio. (Deactivate the lost one on your MDE and Room!)

I noticed a lot of people did not size down their bands, by pulling off the outside strip. Even for small children! Some of the babies I saw with bands wrapped around their wrists looked like they were going to lose them at any moment.

I think having the long strap sticking out would make it a lot more likely to come off. I sized mine down, and had no problems at all. Nor did my husband, who has bigger wrists than me and didn't size his down.

I left mine on all the time, even sleeping. He took his off whenever he got back to our resort room. It didn't seem to have any effect on how securely they stayed on.

I strongly recommend making sure they fit properly. Also, if you're worried about a particularly active child, make sure to bring a small rubber band to add extra security (or buy one of the sliders). Even tape or a bandaid would do the trick.

They stay on pretty well, but if you catch it on something or something applies pressure to it just right it can pop off. DD's (7) popped off a couple of times during our trip, but she always knew right when it did and caught it. I will say that we found one in the pool at our resort and I can see where the resistance of the water if you are swimming could pop it off, so I would just be careful when you leave a pool area to be sure everyone still has theirs on.

Also, if you have a small child that you think won't want to keep the band on, they can pull them off easily, so you might want to hold onto it and pull it out when needed. My friend's 3 year old son decided he didn't want to wear it and promptly yanked his off and threw it into the bushes. We all know those bushes aren't exactly a safe place to be digging around with the snakes at WDW!

We went in November and had no problems with them falling off except when picking up children. Every time I picked up my grandchild my band popped off. Just be aware that if they catch on something they will come off!

We picked up covers for ours in Dec. We thought the bands were hot and sweaty when it hit the high 80's. ours did not come off when we had the covers on them. they did fall off a few times when we caught them on stuff before we got the covers. It was just DH and me.
