It looks kind of creepy, with those ballroom ghosts and dim hallways and floating candlesticks.
Is there a song that plays?
So how scary is this attraction?

When I was really little it was not scary, just a little bit spooky. Now I think it is all just good campy corny goofball fun!!

Grim grinning ghosts come out to socialize... that being said - I don't think it's really all that scary...

It's def. more spooky then scary. There are some parts where things jump out, but overall it is not bad.

There are songs, and a narrater. For an adult, it is really more campy and spooky then anything.

If you are talking about a child, it would potentially be scary though.

It's more fun than scary unless you have a small child that's easily frightened.

My very first visit, in 1972, I was in first grade. I remember crying and being absoutely terrified!

I can see how a little kid could be scared, at least of the stretching room part - but for an adult, not scary at all. :)

It's more creepy than scary... mostly it's fun. There is music and nothing jumps out at you, just lots of cobwebs, dark corners and ghostly illusions.

I suggest subscribing to Tour guide mike. com He gives a detailed description of the rides and tips to help keep children from being frightened. :thumbsup2

Um... When I went (May 28, 2006) they had some things that jumped out. :guilty: Some of the things startled me, but it is not bad. You cant do Magic Kingdom and leave this out!

Things do pop out at you but it just makes you jump, it's not really scary . When I first went on it [I think I was about 9 or 10] the scariest part for me was in the first room before you even get on the ride.

My very first visit, also 1972, I was almost 15 and my sister was 11. We were very apprehensive. This was Disneyland and there were lots of rowdy teens all around us. They were screaming things like "HE'S GOT ME!!!" and we were just sure something was gonna jump out and grab us! We closed our eyes until we stumbled to the doombuggies (where the teens were pounding on the backs of them) and I didn't peek again until the Ballroom scene - then, cool! I had to coax my sister to look, but then we loved the rest of the ride!

I always thought it was more funny and cute than scary but I took my 5 yr old niece on last year and apparently I was wrong. It is scary for small children. She didn't cry but she did hide her face the entire time. She didn't talk to me for an hour afterwards.
I felt horrible. :guilty:

I think it would be very scary for children under 10 or 12 but just lots of fun with interesting effects for older kids or grown ups. My most favorite ride in all of WDW!!!!

I voted for kinda scary but then again I'm a scardy cat and I don't like scary movies either.

we were just there a couple of weeks ago. My 19 yo, 17 yo and 10 yo all told me that when thy first saw this one around age 5 they thought it was scary. They never said anything either! I never thought of it as scary--too campy. Anyway, with my 4 yo this time i decided to look at it from her point of view. yeah, I can see why the kids all thought it was scary when they were little. She didn't like this one and actually, the 10 yo is still not crazy about it. The 4 yo had no problem with the Great Movie Ride though and that was the one I was concerned about!

MeggP :)

I agree with the survey results. This really is a classic Disney attraction and certainly must be considered as one of the all time best attractions. :earsboy:

Definitely one of the all-time best, and maybe even the best.

That said, it can be scary, especially for children. Then again, anything dark and loud can be scary for children.

The attraction takes you on a bit of an emotional "roller coaster". More scary at first, but then the ghosts become more comfortable with you, and by the end, they're looking to tour the park with you. That's one thing that separates it from other haunted house type rides that just try to scare/shock you.

Definitely a must do.

nothing really scary about it, but it depends on what frightens you. DD was 9months old and loved it!! :)

I dunno... I'd guess that a blood curdling scream in a pitch black room lit only by lightning with a corpse hanging from the ceiling can be scary for a few of the uninitiated out there. ;)

when i was young it made me a bit nervous, i wouldnt say scared though...now it's just plain funny! :rotfl:
