How scary is Dinosaur--(Be honest).

OK,

DD8 and I will be heading back in October. Last year we didn't do dinosaur, but I really want to try it this year. She turned 8 in February and except for a fear of heights and going upside down, she hasn't really mentioned anything else.

I was wondering actually how scary and intense this ride actually is.

Could I have some reactions and opinions (especially if you have an 8-year old) please.

Well, my son is 9 now, and he first did Dinosaur (Countdown to Extinction at the time) when he was 5 or 6. It didn't scare him, however he is not easily frightened .

Dinosaur is extremely bumpy. That's what I don't like about it. The story line itself is riveting and I don't think the effects are too much for any child who is able to separate fantasy from reality.

I would think twice about taking an 8 yr. old on DINOSAUR because it is a very intense attraction. I think the worst part would be when the carnotaurus leans over your vehicle and roars. If your DD is not easily scared, however, it might be okay to take her on it.

My son did dinosaur at age 4 or 5 and the first time I did not like it...he did. It is very bumpy! I believe that if you explain to your dd ahead of time that it is dark and loud and dinosaurs pretend to get you etc.. that depending on her personality, she'll be fine. I remember it to be very dark and very bumpy with flashes of light and dinosaurs everywhere. When I went on it again on our last trip, I enjoyed it more. Have fun!

I think the dinosaur ride is pretty tame. The ride is very bumpy, but does not go all that fast, no loops, etc. The ride is indoors, and somewhat dark in areas of the ride. The dinosaurs look pretty realistic, and make alot of noise. They do act like they are going to attack the vehicle you are in. If you don't think the dinosaurs will scare her, then she should do fine.

I really wouldn't call it frightening, but a very rough/bumpy ride with intense lighting effect.

My daughter first rode it when she was 5. She begged us to let her ride it. She loved it. Of course, her favorite ride in all of WDW is Tower of Terror (she begged to ride that too). Now she's a 6 year old thrill junkie!

Dinosaur was the only ride that shook me up in all of WDW - I actually ducked a couple of times as well!

Thank you for this thread! I have been trying to get into a "ride picture" with my family but can't do many! Not Splash mountain, or TofT or RRC. But I thought I could probably handle Dinosaur! You've convinced me I can do it. I love Pirates - but that is about as "thrilling" as I can get!

I wouldn't call it really scary but I really enjoy it. It's bumpy as others have stated but if you sit in the center seats (it seats 4 per row) it will be less bumpy. Not much, but a little less.

It might help you decide if it's scary.

I rode this ride for the first time in 1999. For a split second I believed I would be eaten! Intense ride, gets my heart pumping. My DS wanted to ride this with me when he was nearly 6 (Dec. 2002). I explained it was a bumpy ride that felt fast but wasn't really fast (similator type effects like Star Tours) and that fake dinosaurs would act like they were going to eat you. We rode it together and I could tell he was having a hard time. When it got quite dark (and loud!) I put my cheek against his cheek so he wouldn't feel alone. He did "OK", no crying, but it really shook him and he didn't want to ride again. When we went again March 2003 with his cousins he decided NOT to ride this ride. I love this ride, find it quite thrilling myself!

My 8 year old dd rode it this year, and loved it. She jumped a time or two and grabbed my arm, then started laughing. She has no problems riding this with anyone who will accompany her now. I say, explain the ride and that it is all make believe and let her try it.

My DD rode ti at 4 1/2 and liked it. It is rough and loud, but if she understands it isn't real, she should be ok

My DW is the biggest chicken in the world. She will not do ToT, SM, BTMR, RnR, or any other "thrill" ride. However, she did go on Dinosaur. and her only complaint was that it was too loud. She thinks a lot of things at disney are too loud, and I have to agree with her. We have seen a lot of youngsters on the ride, and non of them seem any worse for the wear. Most of them come out with big smiles and want to go on again. I guess it really boils down to the fact that each child, {and Adult} react differentley to certain things.

Of all the rides at WDW, Dinosaur and Alien are the two rides you will see kids coming off crying, big kids too, not just little ones. I think you should ride first if you have any doubts, then decide if your child is up to it. Every child is different when it comes to the scare factor. My son rode this at 5 for the first time and was alittle scared, but no tears and he wanted to ride again this past visit at 6 years old. This ride is bumpy, jerky, very loud and parts are in total darkness and then the dinos come roaring out at you!

Yes,have seen kids coming out of alien very upset. But so far, not on dinosaur. On alien, you feel like things are touching you. On dinosaur nothing will touch you or even feel like it. It just too loud

As I recall, the t-rex or carnosaurus-whatever dinosaur comes at you from the right hand side (as they take a picture of you ducking) ... it might be a bit less scary if your daughter sat on the left hand side, or in the middle. I guess it all depends on your daughter - the 8 year old on our trip got scared on Big Thunder Mountain, so there was no way she was going to even try Dinosaur. The total darkness thing can be an issue.
