How scary are the movie clips at Sci-Fi diner?

My grandkids would love eating in the cars but some get scared of certain characters in movies (Cruella Deville, Ursula, etc.) So how "scary" are the clips that are shown while eating?

They aren't scary just cheesy.

Yeah, not scary at all. All of the clips are from very old horror films and are more cheesy than scary.

They are very quick clips, and not really scary. No need to worry.

NOT! Funny, over-the-top...but not scary. That being said, there's no way to tell how anyone might react to seeing the 50 foot woman or Cat Women on the Moon! Things that are 'unusual' sometimes scares kids. You know them best. If you feel like they're not ready, it's best to wait rather than have a miserable time.

They're cute and funny, and many are in black and white so none are gory.

Try checking UTube. I'm sure someone has posted the clips from Sci-Fi. You watch first, then do like a little viewing party with the grands. Have some snackies, maybe talk about the old style movies and get them jazzed about their trip.

When I took my girls at 9, 7, and 4 they were all 3 scared. It made for a pretty miserable experience. I agree that they are not scary objectively but somehow the combination for them being in the dark restaurant and that on the screen made them anxious as all get out. You can look at the scenes on you tube but I think it is also the effect of being there. Of course some kids are perfectly fine but if your grandkids tend to get nervous in movies I would probably avoid. Even now a year later the girls talk about NOT wanting to go there again.

It's old preview movie clips, I think 'The Blob' was one. If I remember correctly, it was more of screaming teenage girls than showing creepy monsters.

My daughter was 6 when we went and wasn't scared at all (fwiw, she frightens easily too. Princess and the Frog Dr. Facillier really scares her.)

I agree with PP, look at YouTube and then you can decide what's best.

My younger daughter scares easily and we have been going to Disney since she was 1 year old. We always have lunch at Sci-Fi and none of the clips have ever scared her. You should be good.

Agree with the majority here that the clips aren't scary at all. If you notice that a child is apprehensive, you might want to just start laughing at how absurd/funny the clips are. Children take a clue from how their parents act.

Agree. I wouldn't mention "scary" to the kids at all before the meal and once you are seated and watching the clips, start laughing at the stupidness of it all and remind your grandkids that that's all you had to watch when you were their age. Get a conversation going about how times have changed. And if you get to see my favorite clip, when the hot dog flips into the bun, point out that's what was called enjoyment back in the day.

I'm a huge fan of weird movies (wrote a book about them); when I was at Sci-Fi with my sister, she looked over at me at one point (probably the clip from Robot Monster) and said, "You've seen all of these, haven't you?" (All but one or two.)

I went with a just turned 5 year old (he had his 5th on the trip) and he's a pretty timid kid, I was pleasantly surprised at WDW, nothing phased him, but he wasn't rushing to go back on dinosaur. I gave pause to the Sci Fi thing and he thought it was hilarious!

I'm in the minority. I certainly don' think the clips would be scary for most children but I wouldn't be surprised if some young children could be frightened. You know the children you are taking best and let that be your guide. Young kids interpret things differently than we might sometimes think. However, this is a wonderfully themed restaurant and really like an attraction in itself. As someone mentioned, it would be good if you can view some of the clips before going.

It really depends on the child. We've only been once, my oldest daughter had just turned 9, and my younger DD was almost 5. The 9yr old was scared and didn't eat. The clips didn't phase the almost 5 yr old. It scared my oldest so much that we have never been back, and she never ever wants to go there again...and now she's 17.

To me, the clips are all cheesy B movie sci fi films--we went there with my Dad--who enjoyed the clips as they were of movies that were playing at theaters when he was a teenager.
