How safe is the Polynesian Resort?

We are considering staying at the Poly. We thought we'd stay in Tahiti if we could or Rafanui so that we'd be close to the ttc. Either way, it seems we'd have considerable walking to do. My concern is walking on the paths outside at night. I've always felt safe at Disney, but I do have some issues about safety. Has there ever been a problem at the Poly?

I have never stayed at the Poly - it's too rich for my blood, but I can't imagine any place in Disney being unsafe.

I might be speaking out of turn here, but did you have a bad experience in your life that might make you feel unsafe at a family resort.

I live in New York and there are places where you should be on your guard, but in my opinion, Disney is the last place I would feel that way.

I'm sure anything can happen anywhere, but Disney is probably the safest place around.

We stay at the GF, not the Poly, but also walk outside to get to our room. We have always felt very safe and I'm sure its the same at the Poly.

We've stayed at the Poly many times and always felt safe.

We stayed at the Poly last summer and I didn't feel unsafe at all about walking the paths alone at night. One night at MK, DS didn't want to stay for Wishes so he and DH went back before they started. I stayed until they ended and went back by myself - no problem at all. Like anywhere you go these days, just take usual precautions and be aware of your surroundings.
Enjoy your stay!

All the moderates and all the value resorts have outside corridors. You have to walk outside to get to the food court. I have stayed at the value and moderate and I felt safe and still feel safe.

GF and Poly have seperate bldgs. You also have to walk to get to the restaurants (if you're not place in the main bldg), but each bldgs have a door to enter and have inside corridors.

WL and AKL and some resorts in the Epcot area has all in one roof. This is nice cause if there's thunderstorm, you can still do things inside. You don't have to walk outside.

In any resorts, wether it be value or deluxe or home away from home, you should be safe. But always be aware, anything can happen anywhere at anytime. Don't let you guards fully down.

I travel to WDW with my DD, now 6, and my 65 y/o mom. We always stay at the Poly and have never felt unsafe. I am the laundry person and walk along the paths very late at night all by myself to the laundry and have never once felt unsafe. I've never even had it enter my mind! There are always CMs driving around in their golfcarts at all hours. No matter how late you are out there are always others out either getting in late from somewhere, going to get some munchies at Captain Cooks, or just hanging out at the quiet pool. The Poly is very safe.

I have always felt safe at all WDW resorts. You will find that when walking the paths at night that you will always see cast members, so don't worry.

I stayed at the Poly in December and felt very safe. My boys were 15 and 12 at the time and they would go to the pool at night, the gift shops, and the beach to watch Wishes while I would stay back in the room with the baby. Never a problem!

I generally worry about the kids quite a bit when they are not within my sight, but this was not an issue at all at the Poly. I have always felt safe at any resort I've stayed at on Disney Property. :)

We have stayed at the Polynesian many times and always felt safe. The paths never even thought of being any more dangerous as other places . As ANYWHERE I go I'm just keep aware of my surroundings.

We've stayed at the Poly several times, most recently being last October. I have always felt very safe there. At night, the paths are dimly lit by the tiki torches but it is enough light to be able to see around you. As one other poster said, it seems like no matter what time you're walking around others are out and about and there are always CMs driving around in the golf carts as well. We have often times used the monorail to or from the transportation and ticket center instead of the one at the Poly and the walk to and from there, even at night, is very relaxing and I felt very safe. There were also many times that I would go out to our vehicle after dark for something. The parking area is well lit and there is a gate and a guard shack as you come into the parking lot.

As with anywhere, always keep your guard up and be aware of your surroundings. But otherwise, relax and have fun. It does seem like a very safe place!

We have stayed at the POLY & WDW resorts too many times to count for 30+ years and have never felt unsafe! In fact, we travel extensively and WDW resorts are the only place we feel completely safe.

Probably the most dangerous thing about walking outside at night at WDW is mosquitos!

We are night owls and often don't get back to our room until 1-2am. We have always felt very safe at all WDW resorts including the Poly. That being said, you should always be careful day and night at any place you are staying. I have to say though that I do feel safer at Disney than anywhere else I travel.

I recently read a thread about shoplifting in the WDW stores and how they keep the actual "interceptions" shall we say undercover so the other guests would not be bothered. This makes me wonder whether all non-acceptable activity is kept quiet as well. While this makes sense in almost every way, it makes me question whether we know what is really happening on a day-to-day basis in the parks/resorts. I've always felt that WDW is a place that I could let the pre-teen go to the arcade, the 8-year old play in the playground with semi-supervision, etc. but wonder now if WDW really keeps alot "undercover"? Is there any way to find out just what really happens there? :confused3

Hi, we just arrived home from Disney World. We did a split stay and spend 2 nights in Poly. The grounds and parking lot are lit and we stayed out until around midnight and didn't feel unsafe inside or outside. The luau does not end until around 10:00 pm. Lots of people hang out in the beach area to view the fireworks from Magic Kingdom and Electric Water Pageant (I got bit over 20 times by those pesky insects on the beach in the dark! plus this was our first night during our trip). With EMH and late closing of Epcot, there are still plenty of guests going to and from their rooms and visitors attending the luau or having a late dinner in the restaurants in the resort. You should be fine.

Thank you for all your prompt replies. We too, have stayed many times on site, lately at the All Stars. But at the All Stars most of it is open. At the Poly, there are many shrubs, winding paths and it seems more seclusion. I will be traveling by myself, and I was just wondering, like Pats girl, if there was anything to be concerned with regarding security. Of course, one must always be careful and take precautions. This question was just another precaution.

::yes::

When we stayed Thanksgiving 2003, i went out one night to do laundry, it was a little bit of a walk from Hawaii building.

I did get a little creeped out walking by myself, never saw a soul. :confused3

It was probably around 8pm. I didn't feel unsafe, just creeped out. :rolleyes1

No one in the laundry room either. I am aware that I am a little odd, i get creeped out easy. :guilty:

If my DH wasn't with me, i don't know if i would like all those walks without him, especially from TTC.

Love Love Love the poly though!!!!

Michele
