I know the answer to this but I cannot for the life of me remember! I have my own blog and I am doing an article on Hogsmeade and I wanted to include this but I can't remember how quick it was they made back their money nor can I find it online! I know it cost about $200 Million to build and I remember it was something like 3 months but I am trying to confirm. If anyone knows I would appreciate it :)

Dang, I throw away my Comcast annual reports shortly after looking at a few pertinent facts.

4 months sounds about right. I used to see it all the time but now it's impossible to find since Diagon Alley opened.

So everyone is saying they made over $200 million in profit off just Hogsmeade in just a handful of months ? That is what making your money back means to me. I could see that much possibly in revenue but in profit, just from Hogsmeade, that would be unreal.

And how is this determined? Profit only on items sold in the WWOHP area? Increase in ticket sales over the same period the year before? Exit surveys asking whether guests came just to see that? This seems pretty nebulous.

I'm sure it would be figured as the amount of revenue above the same period the previous year. Don't take it too literally.

My guess is it was based off of the increased revenue compared to the previous year during that period as well as merchandise sales for anything Harry Potter related. It did also open in June so the summer is one of the busiest times at the park. Attendance increased by about 41% in the months following the opening. So in theme park world that is entirely possible.

If they hadn't already hit the mark by December, all of those "help it's literally freezing!" scarf sales once the weather turned probably pushed them over the edge.

It only took me 14 times on Hippogriff on a 30 (29?) degree Early Entrance morning to send me to the giftshop for a scarf for each of us! Since then, sometimes I just sit in Hogsmeade watching the money being made in merchandise...

Those figures are quite believable. The opening of WWoHP provided a massive boost to Universal ticket sales, merch, food and room occupancy rates.

I think even universal themselves were surprised with it's amazing success and certainly accelerated Phase 2 /Gringotts. I just wish Disney would follow Universals approach and get away from their current 'snails pace' development methodology.
