How Poly DVC Studios Could Be Better

Considering all the stated dissatisfaction with Poly, I've been thinking about how it could be better.

IF Disney were listening to member feedback, they'd take half the 360 studio rooms and convert the shower room to a full fridge, microwave, counter space, and W/D. The water lines are already there. In those rooms, make the current kitchenette more storage space. Then, make connecting rooms a category and have two single room options (in addition to stnd/lake views): kitchenette w/ W/D or shower room. Connecting rooms would have both options.

They could charge more points for kitchenettes or more practical considering points have already been declared, raise prices overall to $180. It'd sell more quickly if you ask me.

It would solve many of the problems members are complaining about. Connecting rooms (with a shower room on one side and kitchenette with W/D on the other) would be de facto 1 BR +plus. The shower rooms would be much less in demand but would fill based on both connecting rooms and "just happy to have a room".

I posted this in an old thread, but thought it deserved its own. Opinions?

Without a 1BR option, the washer/dryer becomes a deal breaker for us. And connecting studios really should be a booking category.

I think the lack of W/D is an even bigger deal than a kitchen. DVC has spoiled me on being able to do laundry.

The one time I lugged laundry to the laundry room at AKV was enough. Without a W/D in the room, I won't do laundry.

I really would have liked to see them add the W/D to the units. I don't use the kitchens so having just a kitchenette works fine for me...but, when I stay in a studio, I miss having the W/D and don't really like having to do laundry in the laundry rooms.

I definitely think it would have been nice to have a Studio plus design since they aren't doing any of the traditional DVC 1 & 2 BR's. And the lack of Washer/Dryer is tops but I'd have liked a King bed to have been used in all that space even if it meant a double sleeper sofa. So many things they could have done to appeal to those who like DVC because you can have more than just a standard hotel room. If only they'd change up the design in the 3rd Longhouse........a girls gotta dream, right?

The W/D not only require plumbing, they also require vents. I think it's too late to make any changes, especially since they have already started sales based on the current layouts. I still think that a new building is down the road.

There's really nothing required for a washer dryer that isn't also required for the bathrooms. Better to make changes now than remodel in a year or two.......ala BLT which when I toured it prior to opening my guide said the response to the bathroom sink layout was 50/50. I also doubt there's any conflict with current sales that they couldn't overcome.

But yes - I know the reality.

Personally, I am ok with they studios as they are. Tikiman indicates there are plans for additional construction down the road. Put in 1BR and 2BR units on land and charge $200/pt which will likely be the direct price in 5 years.

We are upset also that there are no 1bdrm units. We really wanted to purchase at the Poly and now we'll just add more points to our current home resort. To be honest while I feel we need the washer and dryer we could easily give it up if there was an extra toilet over the extra shower. They could have saved some space I'd figure by putting in a powder room with toilet and sink over a shower and sink. I'm sorry but 5 people and 1 toilet is a bit rougher to work around then 1 shower, or at least for us . All in all we would have rather seen an extra toilet or a washer/dryer for the space they used for that shower.
