How organized are you?

I have been cleaning closets for two weeks now. Can't stand the clutter anymore. If I haven't worn it in 6 months, it's going in the charity bag. Does anyone have specific ways to organize clothes and shoes?

How often do you clean out your closets?

Mine get cleaned by my DH when he gets tired of my clutter I am not very organized so I let my DH do all that since he is really good at it and enjoys doing it.

I am not the least bit organized!!! I really need to go through my closets etc....but no motivation!!!

Closets, cabinets, drawers -- 2 times a year

Cellar, garage -- 2 times a year


I organize the closets by season. I organize the cabinets and drawers by what I use most. That's the easiest to get to and the most convenient to where I'll be using whatever comes out of that closet or drawer.

When I buy school clothes in Sept my closet gets cleaned.
When I buy summer clothes in May/June my closet gets cleaned.

When I get in the mood to have a spotless room, my closet gets cleaned but this doesn't happen very often.

I clean my closet once a year and if I haven't worn something in that year, I usually get rid of it.

I do mine usually once a yr unless they get messy. mine are pretty organized.

In the spring I get rid of the winter clothing that I don't wear, in the fall I get rid of the summer clothing that i don't wear. I have just started to try and organize the house better, beginning with the basement . Now stuff is a little more together...all the electrical repair stuff in one cabinet, all the painting stuff in one cabinet etc. Now I have to get DH to organzie it and pare it down even more...help!!!!!

Last year both my in-laws died, and clearing out their house gave me a new appreciation for not buying anymore "stuff". I have enough knick knacks etc. Now it's time to start getting rid of stuff.

Clothes & shoes don't get much of a look in around here..................I do go through the boys stuff every season tho

Ok. The declutter has begun. My son and I went through three toy chests this morning and thru out 3 bags of stuff and have one box for the church auction.

Last night, I cleaned out the master bath under cabinet. Sterlite makes these great drawers that fit in perfectly. Put all shampoos together, conditioners, soaps you name it.

When decluttering clothes, I have a hard time. I wear suits to work, so short sleeves are ok under a jacket or sweater. So the only thing I took out were my white capris, pants, linens and shorts. That didn't leave much space.

I'm quite green on the stuff, so any advise would be a great help.

I'm too afraid to tackle the basement and the garage. Maybe, I'll get DH to do that.

I'm with UncleKyle..organization what's that!. I need to organize my closets better. Actually just went through everything last week since I had to pull it all out for my SO to fix a leak in the wall. Have a full bag to go to the charity box now...some of the stuff never worn..still have tags on (mostly gifts that were not my style).

I use to be good about doing a "spring cleaning" every year and going through what I don't use or need, but have gotten out of the habit...now I seem to go through it when I get aggravated not being able to see all that I have.

I usually reorganize and clean in the fall and spring (when I change out the clothes). I try to keep it organized so that I can find things. I keep most of my shoes in their original shoe boxes and stack them with the color and style facing out. Then I have a small laundry basket filled with other shoes, mostly sandles. I have hooks for my robes and I try to hand the clothes by category...(i.e. sweaters together, button down shirts together, dresses, etc...).

Uhhh, I don't think you want to know how I organize my shoes. Lets just say my shoes have their own walk in closet, and are all in their original boxes, coded by color and then by style.

I'm somewhat obsessed with my shoes and clothes.

I'm not a packrat, and go through my stuff pretty often and get rid of things I know I won't use again. I have one junk drawer in my house, and thats where I put stuff I don't know what to do with. After 6 months of being in the drawer and I still don't know what to do with it, it gets tossed.
