DD turned 14 months on 11/1 and is not walking. She didnt start crawling until 11 months so I know she likes to take her time. I am starting to get a little worried now though. She "cruises" around the furniture and pulls up to standing no problem. I try to get her to walk to me and it looks as if she thinks about but then decides crawling is easier. My other DDs were all running around at this age! I know I am not supposed to compare but it's hard not to.

Anyone else have late walkers?

9mos, 14mos & 12mos

my middle child "walked" on her knees for months

My daughter started crawling the week she turned 7 months, so I thought she would be an early walker. Nope. She didn't walk until 13 months. My nephew started walking a couple of months ago at 15 months. Some kids just take their time. :)

Aw, I wouldn't worry about this. All 3 of my boys walked at 12 months, but your right, everyone is different. She sounds like she likes to take it easy, and there's nothing wrong with that, it also sounds like her motor skills are great. No worries Mom, you'll be chasing her before you know it. :thumbsup2

12 months & 15 months

while my second DD walked later she made up for it by talking at a year,
while first DD didn't say much till she was 2.

Mine were 11 months--if your child still isn't walking, you can mention it to your ped to see what they say. If they feel it warrants attention, they can refer you for evaluation. If you are concerned if they say not to worry--you can still request a referral for an evaluation.

Everyone is different--but their is a "developmental schedule" and it doesn't hurt to see what her skills should be.

If your ped has never mentioned anything re: poor muscle tone or gross motor skill delay, then she is probably okay. :)

Oldest dd was 14 mths, but walked/ran very well at that age when she finally decided to move. Younger dd is 14 mths but she has hypotonia, which caused her delays in sitting, crawling, and is delaying her walking. She receives physical therapy which has helped her catch up tremendously. Our goal was to have her walking by 17 mths, but she cruises now, so I'm hoping she can walk earlier.

My older 3 started walking right around their 1st birthday. #4 broke his leg over the summer. He got the cast off 2 weeks before his first birtday. He started walking at 13 month.. he just turned 14 months and is doing good.. but is still wobbly at times.

Hannah started at 13 months, Emily at 11 months.

DS14 sat at 3 1/2 months, crawled at 5 months, walking along furniture at 5 1/2 months and running by 8 months. Being new parents we didn't know this wasn't typical so when the twins were 10 months and not crawling we thought something was wrong with them. DS11 walked at 13 months, DD11 walked at 15 months although she took steps before that and could walk, she chose not to walk :rotfl2: . She had a bit of a princess complex as a baby. :teeth: princess:

I wouldn't worry to much about it. All the kids walk at different ages. My son walked at 8 1/2 months and my daughter was 14months.

Let's see.....12 months (on the dot!), 11 months, 12 months and a few days and last 13 months.

I wouldn't worry about it yet. You said she takes her time. It will happen soon!

DS started walking at 11 months, he actually learned how to walk in a Dallas hotel room while we were evacuated from Katrina! Anyway, I hear that girls learn to walk later than boys do.

If you have a concern it never hurts to ask your ped. My BIL was 16 months old and had no desire to walk. Oh every woman on their Army Base told MIL that he was lazy or that she spoiled him too much....come to find out he had weak ligaments and had she forced the isse he could have been permenatly disabled. The doctor put casts on his legs and he started RUNNING at 18 months!

Good luck, she'll do it!

Mine didn't start til she was 13 months, but I think it was mainly because of the daycare she was in. It was not a good daycare at all. I learned they kept them in the cribs all day! The first day at her new daycare, she came home and took 4 steps. She's 2.5 now and sometimes I long for the days when she was a baby and didn't move much. :rotfl: Her speech is so advanced. People can't believe she's only 2 when they hear her talk.

Since I walked at 7 months... yes, my family called me a "wind up toy"... I thought MY son was late because he didn't start till he was almost a year old. I thought something was wrong with HIM when I realized that it was ME who was strange!!

My first child didn't walk until he was 15months. Nothing wrong with him, he was just cautious, prefered to crawl and cruise. Then one day, he stood up in the middle of the kitchen floor and walked off, like he'd been doing it for months :confused3 And that was that. He did the same thing with talking--totally unintelligible until 24 months, then talked in full sentences. :confused3

DD walked alone at 12months and talked rings around my first child. :goodvibes But then she's a girl, she has a lot to say.

Last child is developmentally disabled. He didn't walk until he was 5-1/2yo. However, he still went through all the same milestones, just at a veeeerrrry sloooowww paaaacce. What took my other kids a few days or weeks to master took Christian, literally, years. And we had to actually teach him how to use his body, whereas with a normal child they just pick it up from watching you :confused3 Still, it was very interesting seeing how he learns.

Pedi said she is she is fine and no need for concern until she is around 15 months. Easier said than done. But she has started to talk a lot earlier than the others!

Our 1st dd walked at 14 mos and our 2nd was running at 10 mos. Our 1st seemed scared to let go of the furniture and walk by herself. She is still extremely cautious about everything now and she just turned 11.

Yes, our DS learned to walk just a few months shy of his 2nd birthday!!! We did have PT come to the house as part of the birth to 3 program and work with him because we were concerned but he just did it when he was darn good and ready. His motor skills still aren't the greatest because he's afraid to ride his two wheel bike (that has training wheels on it) and he's 5 years old. He just can't seem to maneuver it right. But he's as sharp as a tack, a very bright little boy. Kids just do things at different speeds.

My son walked at 10 months but children of friends have ranged from 9-16 months.
