How old before your DD stopped believing in the princesses?

I think we are among those who will be cancelling our WDW vacation this year due to costs. I'm bummed because I think the next time we go, our DD will be 7 yrs old and very likely may not believe the Princesses are "real". We always do the Princess character buffets, and right now she really thinks Ariel is *the* Ariel, Cinderella is *the* Cinderella, etc. She also thinks Cinderella's castle is *her* home when we come to WDW.

Sadly, I think these things won't be the way she thinks in a year... What age did your DD's stop believing? I can't see WDW having the same appeal to us as her parents once that magic is gone...

My niece is 7 now and still believes.

Your daughter may stop believing in princesses, but I'm sure that something new will captivate her interest. It will be different, but no less magical.

For me the magic of Disney, is that everyone can embrace their inner child for a week or so.

My son asked me at 4 if the power rangers were people in suits, he hasn't ever much believed that they were real so I would think that it will be shortly.

My DD is 11, almost 12. She doesn't exactly "believe" that the princesses are real, logically she knows better, but when we are there she pretends they are and that still makes it magical for her, if that makes sense.

Although my daughter does not believe princesses are rael she enjoyed everything princess on our last trip. In 4th grade the girls want boyfriends and cel phones...princesses are out. My DD loved not having to worry about her friend's seeing her. But I loved seeing her act like a little girl.

We took our triplets when they were five. DD was SOOO into princesses then, DS1 loved Power Rangers, DS2 was a Buzz & Pooh fanatic. What a magical time for all three to meet their heros! Best week ever!

We wanted that same magic, and went when they were 6.5. Princesses were ok at best, and Buzz and the PR had faded. Very sad for me. But they had new favorite things, such as the rides, attractions, High School Musical. It wasn't as Magical, but it was still wonderful! And we went at Christmas, so that made it very special. I think we are waiting a few years before our next visit....going to the Outer Banks so Mom & Dad get a relaxing vacation this year!!

:sad1: My 4 year old is already questioning it. She definately knows that Mickey is a guy in a costume (nobody told her that...she just figured it out) but so far she's okay with the princesses. I'm thinking this is the last year though. It's so sad. I believed in Santa until I was 9!!! I don't think I have much time on that either.

My children have never believed that the characters were "real". They know that they are people dressed up in costumes.

What age!!! lol my daughter is 16 and she still believes in princesses..Heck she still believes in Santa Clause she knows once she stops believeing the magic is over:wizard: ..She loves Sanat Clause...Lol...

WHAT?!? The princesses aren't real??? Heck, I'm 31 and still believe they are real when I'm down there:-). It's so easy to get swept up in the magic no matter how old you are. On a serious note though, my daughter is 8, and she realized just this year that the costumed people aren't real (Mickey, etc.)...she is very naive, but I like it that way. She still whole-heartedly believes that the princesses are though...you should see the look of wonder when she sees Cinderella still.

I hope you get to be so lucky, but even if she doesn't believe they are real, it's still magical when you are there:-).

They believe in Santa, Easter Bunny and Tooth Fairy. Just not characters at the theme parks.

She just returned from her second CP program at Disney world.

She believes more now then she did as a child (she wasn't into princess stuff or girl stuff then) -- I think she was 4 or 5 when Mermaid was released, 6 or 7 when Beauty was released.... but mickey was and always will be her first prince (men in tights never did anything for her!) ...

With that said, everyone that does disney with her has called me up and said, OMG - SHE SPARKLES and is the light of the night during the parades and ridig rides and she acted like a personal tour guide for friends and family.

I am mom. I annoy the piss out of her most of the time, unless I am buying stuff for her of course... (we do have our moments but they dont glow like others) - I guess its payback for not having trouble with her when she was a teen.

I will not do disney with her again until she has a child (far off way into the future) --- I would love too, but it just wont happen.

Last trip was 'santas at epcot' and the time before that 'pirate and princess party' - she was a pirate :) --- and the deal is, if she goes with me again, it would be JUST Mommy and Daughter and we will eat at CRT (we never did that) AFTER I pay for her to have the works at BibbityBobbityBoutique (hair, nails, dress) so unless I win the lottery....

she still believes.
She will always be my princess!

My princess is 16 and when she is at WDW she still believes! Intellectually I think she knew by the time she was 7 or 8 that they are really just wearing a costume. But at Disney the princesses are real. She has always been big on the princesses which is surprising because she isn't a "girly girl". We've done CRT and the Princess breakfast at Akershus. And 1900 Park Fare so she could eat with Cinderella and the step sisters.

My Dd is 15, turning 16 in October and guess what the theme of her Sweet 16 is? Yep, princesses. She is looking for a gown to wear and a tiara.

While I know she knows they aren't real, it is the concetp of the pricesses that she beilieves in. Does that make sense??

First trip the girls were 3 and 6. I thought the 6yo knew the truth, but she was not sure I guess. Our second trip the girls were 5 and 8. The 8yo knew for sure they are not the real princesses, but the 5yo didn't quite get it. When she asks, I tell her Jasmine, Ariel etc. are animated, but what you see is a "real Disney World character!" (Say it with excitement)

Frankly, even I forget when I am there that it isn't real! I don't see my girls being any less excited to see their princesses this year when they are 7 and 10. We talk to them and ask a lot of questions and really get into the character interactions!

dd knows they are not real anymore and she is 8. I think she really started getting out of the whole princess theme last year sometime and knew they were not real around age 6.

I can not imagine what it was like to be 6 and 7 years old (the ages of my dd's when they went) and being called princess everywhere they went. I am 35 and I still believe in princesses. I was on cloud nine while I was there:cloud9: .

I helped with a women's retreat last summer and got to give a talk. I based it around the princesses and told every woman in that room they were a princess. Most of them were older than me and they began to sparkle and act different. It was beautiful!!!:wizard:

I remember when my daughter was 8 and soooo into Ariel we had to visit her about 5 times at the Grotto. Well, each time she was "slightly" different and when I was looking at the pictures I couldn't believe she didn't see it, and she didn't -- but when the magic is there it is there!

What the princesses aren't real?? YES they are. YES they are. And so is Tinkerbell.:lovestruc
